[Roadsters] Re Shocks (2 questions)

KYB's Gr2 - about 15K on them
1) My left front side has developed a squeak. Seems to be the shock. Can one
just lubricate the shaft or is it more likely internal and if so what to do
2) How does one test a shock. I have two spare fronts - when I compress them
one returns more than the other - does this matter -
