Welcome and congrats on your purchase.

I'll go with the majority, i.e. get it drivable before you decide to spend
tons of time and money on a frame-off.

As for the rubber/weatherstripping bits, it -IS- cheaper in the long run
-IF- you can afford a complete weatherstripping kit, but don't let that stop
you if you can't. I'm in the same boat, and have been buying the one or more
pieces when I have the money.

I'm thinking less of an issue for you in Arizona than me in the cool, wet
Pacific NW. <g>

Pete

Subject: [Roadsters] Intro

Hi everyone. Just a brief intro. My daughter and I are now the owner's of a
1967 Datsun 1600 in what I would call fair condition. Engine runs, has some
valve train noise, no smoke, transmission shifts smoothly. My daughter
actually saw it at a recycle yard in Northern Arizona (Overgaard) and we
decided to stop in. We thought what a neat little car. We talked about it
and she (about to turn 13 BTW) committed to helping getting the car
roadworthy.

I put some pictures up on our picasa web album.

Hopefully it will be a nice father daughter project. All the rubber needs
replacing, the only major body work seems to be in the tail light areas of
the car. We have the tail light chrome rings, the lenses and sockets need
replacing. I see on eBay they are pretty expensive to replace.

We are going to work on mechanicals, check brakes, cooling system, valve
train etc. to try and make it a reliable road worthy car. Any advice
appreciated. We'd like to see a similar Roadster in person especially if you
have restored the car. Ron Hamilton who doesn't live far from me suggested
we join this list, we found 311s.org as well. Ron should be a good resource
as tells me he has owned quite a few of these neat little cars.

I live in East Mesa, AZ. The car is currently up North in Overgaard AZ. I
will be trailering it down soon.

Thanks

Marty Escarcega
