I'm always willing to learn, which is why I love this list so much. Any question one asks will get good responses! I try to learn something new every day, and when it comes to things automotive, this is usually the place I learn it!
Thanks for the info, Gordon.

I can tell you were never a hot-rodder or drag racer (not a criticism, just
an observation). The basic GMC Rootes-type blower has been used for decades,
and still is the dominant setup. Carbs or injectors are mounted on top of
the blower. In the newer cars (okay, probably the last 20 years) there is
multi-stage fuel injection, with the first stage being above the blower and
the others plumbed into the intake manifold below it.

Drag racing is all about excess, that's why I still find it fascinating. In
a top-fuel engine making 8000 hp, it takes about 900 hp just to drive the
blower.

Isn't this setup kinda backwards, i.e., isn't a supercharger usually
upstream
of the carburetor or fuel injection body, in order to pressurize the
carb/FIB?
I mean, that's why they call 'em blowers, isn't it? This looks like a suck
(as
opposed to blow) arrangement.
