On further consideration, I agree. My compression was never zero.

Sorry, dude. Your head gasket is gone.
You'll find it's breached between the #1 and #2 cylinders.

Tight valves or a closed throttle will create low readings, but
zero means there's a significant hole somewhere. Not going to be
your rings, either. Could be you burned holes in both #1 and #2
pistons :-) Possible if your front carb is way lean but not likely.

It's the head gasket. Check carefully for warpage and defects on
the head itelf. If a U20 you need to check the TOP surface as
well, or you risk the camshaft. I bought a spare head for my 1200
once, for $1, after the owner managed to burn a trough into the head
between two cylinders.
