"Cables" for a converible top. After fastening the top onto the posts
and twisties, there are two large clips, one on either side internally
behind the doors, that are slid into clamps. These large clips are
attached to spring cables that pull the fabric tight around the
windows, providing proper tension to seal the space between the top
and the windows. You may be able to buy these from some of our vendors
if your top is missing them.
If your rear plastic windows are hazy from old age or are torn, you
can take your top to a shop to have the plastic window material
replaced. Do not cut out the plastic window yourself, leave it in
place. The shop will use the old material as a template to sew in the
new plastic. Otherwise, the top might not fit correctly after the
repair. I've taken mine to a shop that repaired MG's and other
European ragtops. Of course there's nothing better than a new top, but
this could save a couple hundred dollars if money is scarce.
