[Roadsters] oil coming out at base of spark plug U20

Powder/spray gets sprayed on the OUTSIDE of the engine with nothing
disassembled and all caps on. The oil will go down by gravity and back
from the engine fan. It also runs along seams and gasket joints. My
crack is on the right side of the cover near the timing chain. Oil is
dripping from around #4 plug. The electric fan makes quite a breeze,
and the speedometer, on occasion, goes way to the right of center, so
oil will tend to go back.

The welder will usually put the ugly side of the weld on the inside, so
minimal grinding would be needed on the outside. I've seen welded valve
covers that were mirror polished, you could only see the weld from the
inside, not even a hairline on the outside. Your results may vary, but
used covers are cheap and available and cost less than welding. Would
look nice polished with white paint between the fins.

Would a crack in the top of the valve cover be able to send oil up and
down into the spark plug area? Also would the powder get into the
rockers etc and cause a problem? Otherwise what you are saying does make
sense. My valve cover has a tiny crack. I think someone said it can be
fixed but won't look so nice. Oh well.

Hopefully andy is right...Mine is a cracked valve cover leak in the

front, pools by #3 plug. Took a while to track out, clean synthetic oil

in the car, couldn't see the run.

Try the poor man's Magnaflux. Spray it down with brakekleen to remove

any oil. Dry with some air. Then get some old fashioned aerosol spray

antiperspirant, foot powder, Desinex, anything that will leave a dry

white powder coating. Fire it up, look for the crack, it will turn

brown from the oil, or show the trail if it's runoff. Cleans off with

soap and water, and as a bonus smells nice.

It is dripping down from the valve cover gasket.
