[Roadsters] Electrical

Well put Keith,
When I changed the alternator on my 2000 to the opposite
(non-intake/exhaust) side (10SI Delco this time), I connected my battery
ground cable to the "upper rear" mounting bolt of the new "right side" alt
mount (to the block). I then connected another "battery type" cable to the
frame from the "lower" bolt. All were cleaned of any corrosion, paint, etc.
prior to doing this, and I used a "liberal" amount of dielectric grease on
all contacts. Cleaning and re-greasing these is now on my list of "grease
points" for my lube jobs.
Lights got brighter, wipers worked better, heater didn't eat all my electric
power, and I don't carry jumper cables anymore! FYI, the power from the 10SI
was NOT the difference. The cable connections came AFTER the install. I
wasn't terribly impressed with JUST the 10SI change. I WAS impressed with
the 10SI upgrade AFTER the new grounding solution.
FWIW

Hello everyone,
I wanted to thank you all for your input on my
alternator problem. I just got it back from the
rebuilder today and they fixed the problem with it.
Now a new problem has arised. After i instaled it and
wired everything back up my roomate gave me a jump. I
noticed the ground wire coming from my regulator
started to smoke and melt along with my throttle cable
which i found to be odd. Does anyone have any input on
this? Much appreciated.

What I've done on about every car I own is to run the battery ground cable
to the engine block rather than to the frame. That way you don't depend on
the
engine to frame ground straps to carry all the starting current.
