[Roadsters] air cleaner (crankcase breather) alternative

I have always wanted alternate air cleaners, but never really liked the idea
of not having the crankcase breather plumbed.

from Alvin's fun run pics (thanks again Alvin), someone's 1600 has a different
approach.  Where are the entry points for these brass fittings?  Are the
running them without air horns, and connecting to the air cleaner backing
plate?
