i use ebay quite a bit, both personal and business.

i use separate paypal accounts for each.

my business paypal account is tied directly to my amex gold card.  well 
worth it - they have come through almost every time for me.

my personal is tied to my checking account; not sure i like that so much.

paypal works, is reasonably secure, but both ebay and paypal are not real 
good at going to bat for you or resolving issues.
