I am stripping the block so it can be cleaned.  Is there an easy way to remove
the freeze plugs?

[demime 1.01d removed an attachment of type image/gif which had a name of tech.gif]

Hi Jim,
I used to use a screwdriver hammered through the center and popped out.  
Now I drill a hole in the middle, insert a threaded end on a slide 
hammer which works more cleanly.
