Anyone out there has bought rims that fit with no bodywork modifications or spacers? I find a few online, but never with quite the same backspacing or offset, and I would rather buy something which I know will fit, instead of ordering rims that "might" fit. By the way, the aim is to get rid of the "shimmy" I get around 70 mph and above.... and that's with brand new suspension and shocks. I tried to have the wheels balanced, going as far as having the front tires shaved and the wheels balanced on the car, and the two best balanced rims are on the front. It did improve the ride, but there are still vibrations. I also need a source (or a Ford part number) for the heat riser on a 75. The vacuum storage tank in the front bumper was leaking and bleading off vacuum. I plugged the hose leading to it and the headlights go up and down now. It doesn't look like it would be very easy to get inside the bumper to do anything with that tank, but I suppose I could rig up some sort of substitute tank. Given that the headlights are working though, I am not sure that is necessary. So can anyone tell me if there is any reason the tank is needed and therefore should be repaired or replaced? My first thought was that it was the u-joints. They were a little worn so I replaced them, but that didn't help. The rear end doesn't seem to have excessive play as far as I can tell. They are way too short and can 'clunk' due to torque build-up. Some folks have removed them for that reason. Try having a helper put the car in drive and reverse, and look at the motor to see how much it moves when the gear shift is changed from drive to reverse and vise versa. If it's not that, I'd say take it to a shop, have them put it on a lift. They'll probably put someone in the car to shift it, and someone under to look for the clunk. Good luck, keep us posted. Since it happens when cold, I assume that the car is running on a higher than normal RPM. This will give much more torque to the drievtrain. Motor mounts, trans mount. exhaust hangers. Having exhaust pipes too close to frameworks. Could even be just normal wear in the rear end. Having someone looking under the car and holding the engine revs up?while the brakes are locked will help to narrow things down.. If I was too wager on most likely I would remove and check the Trans mount. -----Original Message----- From: isensee <isensee at aol.com> To: bricklin <bricklin at autox.team.net> Sent: Thu, Feb 17, 2011 2:51 pm Subject: [Bricklin] Clunk My '75 Bricklin has been making a clunk sound for some time and I haven't been able to track it down. My first thought was that it was the u-joints. They were a little worn so I replaced them, but that didn't help. The rear end doesn't seem to have excessive play as far as I can tell. I have checked over the suspension to see if there is a bolt loose so that anything can move, but don't see anything. Any ideas? There is the 2 views shown on the Bricklin International webpage, but they are rather sketchy. Do you know of any accurate blueprint drawings (front, top, right side, left side and rear views) of the Bricklin? If you know of any, please let me know. They are doing well, but things are pretty bad down there. So far they and their family are all fine. Everyone is pitching in doing things that need to be done, and helping their neighbors.
