Is there a good method to resolve this leak. I am trying to take care of all the leaks as possible. Oil pressure is still good. Took a about a 10 mile drive today to the exhaust shop to have a couple of pipes moved since the new transmission was a little closer to what was there. Was causing a bind in the shift cable. Getting ready to jack the car up again to see what they did and work on this leak. Greg 0036 From jblair1948 at cox.net Fri Sep 4 04:50:18 2009 From: jblair1948 at cox.net (John T. Greg, Here's a quick tip from the upcomming Oct issue of the magazine: --------- '74 AMC Oil Leak By: Milton Smith VIN 0073 Huston, TX My car has been suffering from an oil leak which no one was able to find. In desperation, I took it to a Rolls Royce mechanic. He found the leak in just a few minutes. The rear bolt for the fuel pump in a '74, the AMC engine, goes into one of the oil galleries. While the bolt was tight, and the gaskets were good, the oil was seeping past the threads on the bolt. The mechanic removed the bolt and put some RTV sealer on it, re-installed and tightened it. Oil leak gone! ------------- So my guess is you could use the same principle. John John T. Blair WA4OHZ email: jblair1948 at cox.net Va. When he left the show (around 1pm I think), he found his Bricklin had been stolen. The sheriff drove him around the parking lots (multiple lots) because the sheriff wanted to make sure that Patrick hadn't just forgotten where he had parked. I'm sure that happens, but Pat knew where he had parked. A police report was made. And yes, it was insured. It is white-original color, not painted. It was stock, original. I am half way through a frame-off restoration. The car is completely apart. The frame is in excellent condition with the exception of the rear upper shock mount that I have re-fabricated with heavier steel but not yet welded into place. Also, there is one tiny stress crack in the passenger side shock tower that can be easily welded. Everything else is solid. I have disassembled the front suspension and have new ball joints. I have retained the original power steering box and pump as well as the York A/C compressor. The chassis is also in excellent condition. I built a special dolly to move it about and make working on it easier. I sold the original seats (to John Blair) but have two Fiero seats (one needing new padding and cover). As for the body, I have all the panels, which were originally white and had been painted black. I have had the paint and acrylic sand blasted off and top coated with an epoxy primer. That should eliminate the cracking problem and provide a good base for future painting. I have two rear hatches and two hoods and all the glass is in excellent condition. Basically you just have to assemble and paint to complete. I have the correct B F Goodrich radial T/As mounted on real Dayton wire wheels. As for the engine and transmission, I disposed of the old AMC 360 and went with a Chevy small block 305 bored out to 310 cubic inches. My design criteria were absolute reliability, good mileage and 300 HP. I chose the 305 over the 350 because I wanted to have a very reliable engine and didn't want to worry about the effects of core shifting when boring it out 0.30. The engine has been professionally rebuilt, balanced and blueprinted using the very best components. Included is a complete TPI setup with the MAF sensor and the ECM with an ADS super chip. There are more special details about this engine than I have space to list here. The engine will easily produce 300 HP and 300 foot pounds of torque. I have considerable reference material on the TPI conversion was well as the usual pile of Bricklin material. The Chevy small block is a perfect fit in the Bricklin. Either the existing motor mounts can be used if re-installed reversed or adapters can be used. The package includes a World-class T5 transmission, the bell housing, a Centerforce clutch, and a Chevy gas tank with an in-tank fuel pump for the TPI. It also includes a pair of rams-horn exhaust manifolds that flow better than headers. The drive-shaft will need to be a different length so I am including both the original Bricklin shaft and a Camero drive-shaft with a T5 compatible yoke so that the shaft can be mated to the AMC 20 differential. I have three options. My preference is to sell all the car and engine/transmission to someone who wants to complete the project. The second is to sell the engine/transmission and the car separately. The third is to sell the engine/transmission and sell the car as parts. If anyone on the forum would like additional information or is interested in buying the complete car with the engine and transmission as a project , please let me know. We can discuss the price. In December of 2006 I purchased #901 from a person who owned it for 10 years. In that time he put 76 miles on it. I had full intentions of getting it in top shape and spent the winter working on it in my garage. Summer came and I had other things to do and when fall came around, I put the car outside in my back yard on my patio wrapped in a car cover and a huge blue plastic tarp. I actually drove the car on top of the tarp, put the car cover on it and then wrapped the car up like a Christmas present to keep it away from the elements. I did nothing with the car in 2008 and in March of 2009 I had an accident and broke my back in 3 places along with some other smaller injuries. Needless to say, I wasn't able to work on the car due to my injuries. Well, today, my son was over and we unveiled the car and to my surprise it was soaking wet inside. The ignition is frozen, and upon opening the hood, the engine has rust all over and the carb linkage is frozen. I was in the process of doing the interior over and had purchased brand new black carpet kit with the thermal backing which never made it in the car, a Terry Tanner black console, and had both seats recovered black. Amazingly enough even though the car was wrapped up for almost 2 years, the battery had enough charge in it to release the door latch and the air tank had enough air in it to open both gull wing doors! This vehicle needs lots of work in order to loosen things up and the interior needs to be installed. The body is in good shape and is all original. I purchased 4 Eagle GT's tires right down the street from me and they have about 1 mile on them. The original tires were on the car when I purchased it and still had nubs on them but they rode like petrified wood. The odometer shows just under 8k miles and according to the gent I purchased the car from, it's original. I put 90 miles on it myself getting it home. I have over 8k into this car and would like to get 2k for it as it sits. If you want pictures, I can send them. The car is located in Milford New Hampshire and it will need to be towed. If there is any interest, please shoot me an email. I have someone interested in buying mine but is running into some issues. First is that I have a rebuilt/restored branded title. The second issue is that Utah does not have any record of it prior to when I registered it in 2002. It's probably because sometime prior to that they purged their database of all titles that have been inactive for at least 3 years. My brother-in-law got it sometime in the late 80's and can't remember what type of title he had. He thinks it was a salvage title but it could have been a dismantling permit. Anyway we can't find a record of either. The guy in Canada really want's it but doesn't know where to go from here. Any ideas? But several years ago, there was a web page put up about oil filters, and Fram had problems with their drain back valve and other things. So I quit using them. It appears that the original web page has moved and been redone. The new (update) version of that page is now at: http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html Inparticular is the section: Reference Filter - original, most complete reference for the common Chrysler/Ford filter. They don't seem to be as down on Fram as they were in the original web site. John John T. Blair WA4OHZ email: jblair1948 at cox.net Va. Can I get to this to release the passengers side from under the car? Is there a way to possibly have another method to run the wires for the hood latches? The wire from the drivers to the passengers side is sitting on top of the wiper motor in my case. Greg 0036 From jblair1948 at cox.net Mon Sep 28 12:05:14 2009 From: jblair1948 at cox.net (John T. Yes you can get to the latch from under the car, but it a real PIA! We've done a couple of articles on the hood release cables over the years, one is how to get the hood open when the cable breaks, and the other is an emergency release, in case the cable breaks, or you have a dead battery and can't get into the car. I'll see if I can find them for you. John John T. Blair WA4OHZ email: jblair1948 at cox.net Va. I had thought the cable may have broken, but the plate that hold the wire housing was installed incorrectly and bent out and came off the housing. It was installed directly under the bolt instead of behind the plate. I have corrected that and need to run a new wire back through. The passenger side was only being pulled by a few stands of wire. I received a couple of articles related to emergency release and will take a look at implementing it, just in case. I believe the original is 1/64. I removed the center cable and fed this one through. I added a little grease for the length of the cable sleeve. After going through the passenger side attachment. I looped the remaiing cable under the wiper motor and over to the drivers side wheel well (similar to the Bricklin article). I cut the cable where enough length could be outside the wheel well. I used the remaining cable to make a loop around the drivers side attachment and used a clamp for the loop then ran the wire to where the passengers wire was in the wheel well then used a clamp to connect both wires together. Close the hood and checked the emergency wires by pulling on each side and listening for the click. Worked fine. Then I tested the hood latch handle from the inside. They both clicked at the same time now. Hopefully the thicker cable is getting a little more pulling power on the passenger latch. Hopefully I am good on this issue with the back up. Thanks for all the emails. Basically, if a vehicle is 15 years or older it can be imported into Canada with fewer hassles. There's a lot of info on it at Transport Canada's website http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/safevehicles/importation/usa/index.htm and at the Registrar of Imported Vehicles (a company contracted by Transport Canada) http://www.riv.ca Mike --- Maycinc at cs.com wrote: From: Maycinc at cs.com To: bricklin at autox.team.net Subject: [Bricklin] Importing a B to Canada Date: Tue, 22 Sep 2009 22:15:06 EDT s anyone familiar with importing a Bricklin to Canada? I have someone interested in buying mine but is running into some issues. First is that I have a rebuilt/restored branded title. The second issue is that Utah does not have any record of it prior to when I registered it in 2002. It's probably because sometime prior to that they purged their database of all titles that have been inactive for at least 3 years. My brother-in-law got it sometime in the late 80's and can't remember what type of title he had. He thinks it was a salvage title but it could have been a dismantling permit. Anyway we can't find a record of either. The guy in Canada really want's it but doesn't know where to go from here. Any ideas?
