That helped immensely with my TR6, on which little worked when I got it a year ago; now everything works because of one thing: CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN! Polish every terminal and connection you can find, whether it looks ok or not. I wore out five little wire brush bits for my Dremel tool, sometimes emery paper or 400 grit sandpaper, sometimes coarse steel wool. Electrical contact cleaner (the stuff in a spray can) didn't seem to do much.

You may have more than one problem: Connection to the starter (you said it tries to turn over; it either turns over, i.e., starter works, or it doesn't). Start simple and go deeper if the simple checks don't help--don't skip anything.

Oh yeah, check out the Moss website for tech articles, or the forum on
The Triumph Experience--there are also forums for MG, Healey, etc; that has been quite helpful to me.

Good luck!

Jeff

 From: R J DAVIS <rogerdavis87@msn.com>
To: bmcu@autox.team.net
Sent: Monday, April 7, 2014 9:20 PM
Subject: [Bmcu] Fwd: Electrical Help Needed

Here is Trevor's problem. to the engine, I am also not getting spark. I sprayed starter fluid into the 2 carbs and that did not work ( because no spark ) the car tries to turn over but nothing happens. It has a new battery and new lead cables. New fuel filter/line. New spark plugs that have been checked for 25 gap. Distributor cables look and feel brand new. No fuses have been blown...unless the MG has 2 fuse boxes and I only see one.

The problem started as I was nearing empty on gas and it chugged a few times and stalled once. It ran for a few more minutes and then died. It has 2-3 gallons of gas in it right now.

This is as far as I have gotten.

I have checked the wiring around the boot and have noticed many many loose wires not going to
anything..and some wires look like they should be connected but are not. I have noticed that the wires are quite brittle at the connection points. Perhaps a disconnect happened.
