How about an in-line fuel filter installed before the fuel pump?
I've installed a clear plastic one so that I can see when it is
getting fouled. My car is running again but not quite back on the
road (still dealing with the DMV and a few bits) so I am not sure
how well said filter will work.
If you read the report about Moab, then you learned
of my difficulty with a fuel filter. I learned a
lesson and want to pass along what I learned.

As we drive our LBC's, many things can and do
happen. I had replaced my mechanical fuel pump for
an electric pump. This resolved a couple of
problems I was having, the worst of which was vapor
lock when the ambient temperature gets into the
90's.

What I failed to realize, or forgot, is that the
electric pump has a filter that is located between
the gas tank and the pump. It is actually part of
the pump, screwing into the body. It's sole
purpose is to keep bad stuff from the gas tank from
getting into the pump and causing problems.
(failure) The filter is a simple $4 replacement
that can easily and quickly changed. This is now
part of my yearly tune up in the Spring, along with
oil, oil filter, etc. To check the filter, you must
remove it from the pump, so it is the perfect time
just to replace the filter with a new one.

Attached is a picture of the residue that I removed
from the filter when I replaced it. This is in<span
