Check 12v but as you have no spark check the points and condenser.

|1. Make sure when the car is switched on there is power to the coil.
|Put a VOM on the two terminals and look for either 12v DC. No 12V track
|it back to the ignition switch and make sure you are getting power. You
|can use a ohm meter to make sure the wire between the coil and the
|ignition switch is good.
|
|2. If you have power tot he coil, verify there is spark going into the
|distributor.
|
|3. Finally, pull a spark plug and see if there is spark by keeping it
|plugged in and grounding the outside of the plug someplace safe. Watch
|out this will really shock you if you are not careful. If there is no
|spark, it could be a coil problem or a distributor problem.
|
|
|For the fuel, check the fuel pump you should hear it running once the
|ignition is engaged.
|
|
|Based on what you are telling us, my bet would be the ignition switch
|is not working or has come disconnected. Do you hear the fuel pump when
|the ignition is on, before you try to start the car? You should.
|
|
|By the way, I've used contact cleaner and it works great. Spray it on
|before you do any scraping or cleaning of contacts. It will clean the
|contacts and prevent further corrosion.

|
|All,
|
|Here is the problem,
|
|No gas is getting to the engine, I am also not getting spark. I sprayed
|starter fluid into the 2 carbs and that did not work ( because no spark
|) the car tries to turn over but nothing happens. It has a new battery
|and new lead cables. New fuel filter/line. New spark plugs that have
|been checked for 25 gap. Distributor cables look and feel brand new. No
|fuses have been blown...unless the MG has 2 fuse boxes and I only see
|one.
|
|The problem started as I was nearing empty on gas and it chugged a few
|times and stalled once. It ran for a few more minutes and then died. It
|has 2-3 gallons of gas in it right now.
|
|This is as far as I have gotten.
|
|I have checked the wiring around the boot and have noticed many many
|loose wires not going to anything..and some wires look like they should
|be connected but are not. I have noticed that the wires are quite
|brittle at the connection points. Perhaps a disconnect happened. The
|Engine shakes quite a bit while idling.
|
|
|Any ideas?
|
|Best,
|Trevor Rimmasch

|Trevor, here is another email re your request for electrical help.
|
|Perhaps if you could give some more information regarding the problem,
|others may chime in with suggestions, recommendations etc. Info like
|what the symptoms are, what you've experienced, what you've tried to
|correct the problem. Basically any information regarding what is
|happening or not happening, will help to diagnose and perhaps cure the
|situation.
|
|Thanks,
|

|Does anyone recommend a good mechanic for fixing MG Midgets? It has
|electrical problems ( insert laughs here)
|
|I am new to the BMCU and am excited to show this beautiful car off at
|the next event. I just need to get it running.
|
|Thanks
