[Bmcu] FW: Car Show FUNDRAISER

I’m in.

I thoroughly enjoy going to a car show, seeing friends and the cars. For wherever it is hosted, it is a boon to nearby businesses. To be charged for providing the draw is a bit of an affront.

Yeah, like the Cache Valley Cruise-In. All those spectators pay $5 each and the entrant still has to fork out about $20. As car owners we should form a union and refuse to pay to enter car shows!

I understand the point, and for some charities I do the same. I think the discussion more surrounded that “so” many car shows charge even when they are not a charity event.

Hi Trent and Brownie,

I think you miss the point, they are fundraisers for whatever cause is sponsoring it. I give to various charities and don’t expect anything back. Often, charities have fund raising dinners accompanied by a silent auction and yes, I have to pay for my own dinner and frequently asked to sponsor an entire table…..imagine that. So a 15 or 20 dollar donation to show my cars, have some fun, see other cars and friends and, help a charity that I want to support, seems like a bargain. Yes, car shows as fundraisers are overdone. I just pick the ones that are for causes of interest to me….including the free ones. In this case, due to the logistics, I am not going to Clearfield. Cheers – Roger Gisseman

Interesting how some expect those that spent the money and effort to spend money for others to see.

That's a bit like Hollywood paying us to see a movie.

OK, my own personal rant on this subject. I love my old cars, I have several, and in all stages of restoration condition. Some years ago I would often joke that I could restore any car and sell it for ten grand and make money (never seemed to happen however.) That has long since been an urban legend. I am old, retired and on a fixed income. Now do not get me wrong. I have what I need to do what I want. But, it seems to me that every one and their dogs have seized on our hobby as a way to make money. Sometimes it is a donation, a membership, sometimes an entrance fee, or perhaps a sponsorship and sometimes charging an advertisement fee. One year I spent over $1,000 in these assessments. I have two of my cars that people contact me personally to have me bring the car to their show. One is a full classic and one is a “one off build.” I have put a bunch of money in both of them. And, now, you want to charge me money to show this car to your public so you can make money for you or your personal cause (granted some of this money does get to those in need—after expenses are taken out.) Been doing this for over fifty years and I have had enough. You will often see me and a car out on the open road having fun, or at McDonalds, Smith’s, Harmon’s and the local gas station. I love to drive these cars. I attend a number of “Free” events each year and often will take my car long distances to be with car friends. But, you will not see me at a fund raiser......

Sorry for the rant. It is just my opinion.

I received the notice. It looks legit and short (3 hours). Not being from Utah, I have not been ask to donate when my car is shown at a car show. Like Park City today. The food donation seems reasonable. The hours on a Friday night may be hard for some to make, and owners my not want to drive to Clearfield for a three hour show. I plan to attend. Frank Mousley
