Thank you to so many for organization  and making it all work out so well. Wow what a fun hotel restaurant / service station any one need a summer job?
Being the newbie and living here most my life I loved the tour to and then around Torrey and surrounding areas but mostly the great presentation of the vast changing Utah weather.
Can't wait for the next trip.

Just got home, 3:30PM, with no problems.  Kevin & Marie, and John and JoAnn, went with us and we went up US 89 through Salina and Fairview to US 6 and then weaved our way through Utah County to home.  The only thing that was strange on the trip was the huge power outage in the Salina to Ephraim area.  No food, no fuel, no rest stops were open.  We encountered a few areas of rain and one short stretch of hail just before Hwy 6, but nothing that could put a frown on our faces.

Thanks to all the Torrey Tourers and Cruisers on Saturday.  I hope that everyone had as good a time as Jill and I did.  Thanks for making this tour a memorable one for us.  Besides having a super good time, we also had the opportunity to make new friends.  A perfect combination.

Time is:  next tour?   - days and counting.   Where are we going next?  Will you be breaking the fun meter with us?

Greetings everyone, if you have looked at the "Lucas Calendar" you will note that this weekend is supposed to be our "Twice over the Oquirrh's Trip.  If you have also looked out the window at the Oquirrh's lately you have probably noticed that they are still under snow.  The most recent estimate that I saw indicated that we are about 5 weeks behind where we should be for snow melt this year. 
 
That said, I realize that some of you may fancy yourselves as Sterling Moss and are anxious for the opportunity for a hair raising ralley through the snow covered Alps.  However most us do not want to plunge off the road to a 1,000 foot fiery death any more than we want to plunge 5 feet off the road to a dented fender!  Therefore, logic and reason should prevail and we will save the "Twice Over The Oquirrh's Trip" for later in the summer.  Fortunately, never fear, I was also planning to do an "Economy Run" this summer, so we will just switch the dates.
 
So, this Saturday, June 4th, that's day after tomorrow, we meet for our first ever "Economy Run".  So what the heck is an "Economy Run"?  Well, Mobile in the U.S. and Mobilegas in the U.K. are the companies that promoted economy runs as corporate sponsored events and Wikipedia describes it as follows.  Mobil Economy Run was an event that took place every year from 1936 (except during World War II) to 1968. It was designed to provide real fuel efficiency numbers during a coast to coast test on real roads and with regular traffic and weather conditions. The Mobil Oil Corporation sponsored it and the United States Auto Club (USAC) sanctioned and operated the run.

We will meet June 4th at the Flying J Travel Plaza at 850 West and 2100 South in SLC at 9:00 A.M. for a 9:30 Drivers Meeting and the first car away at 10:00.  If you get there before I do ask for "Mike", tell him that you are with the "car club" and as a special offer you can get a 20 oz cup of coffee for only $1.00!  Flying J is anxious to have us but I want to make sure that we are respectful to them and that we congregate in an area that is away from their "bread and butter business" of truck traffic.
 
You will need to bring some cash or credit card so that each car can have the gas tank topped off and "security sealed" to prevent tampering while on the drive and more cash for when you return, so we know how much gas was used.  To level the differences between cars and place the largest emphasis possible on the driving skill of the individual, the ton/mile formula will be used.  In this calculation (borrowed from a June 1954 "Popular Science" magazine article) the total weight of the car, occupants and a topped up fuel tank, is multiplied by the mileage covered and then divided by the amount of fuel used to yield the final winner.  It's really not so much what kind of car you drive but HOW YOU DRIVE that determines the winner.
 
We're going to keep the first year fairly short and simple and see how people like this kind of event.  It should be less than 100 miles and we'll put a maximum time limit on it of 2 hours  I hope everyone enjoys it!  GGDuff.

I'll summarize it here. 
1)  Every time you brake, you lose that much gas.
2)  Anticipate stop lights.
3)  Easy, gradual acceleration from intersections.
4)  A consistent speed is the goal.
5)  The most economical speed to climb a hill is 45 m.p.h.
6)  Be mindful of the traffic around you.

It is because of the short, near vertical windshield. The wipers have to be small to make the arc without hitting the top trim and there by would leave larger areas of poor vision if there were only two. More modern cars like the miata have more rake (angle) on the windshield allowing for essentially taller windshields and thereby larger wipers to cover more area.

Had they designed the car with a proper laid back windshield it could have had two longer wipers and it would have looked much better too.  Attached is a concept I designed back in the 70s to make the B a modern car.

But after some research the brits put the third wiper in the middle for the same reason they put oil puddles under the cars  to drive us all nuts trying to figure out why!

June 11th, this Saturday, from 8 A.M. to 10 P.M. will be the 37th Annual Scottish Days/Highland Games at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.  This is a BMCU sponsored event but there is no contact person because it is just a "show up and park your car" kind of day.  

 

We have been directed to enter at the South West gate and park on the grass near there.  For those of you who have gone to this event before, it is the same as in past years.  For those of you for whom this is a new event, you really can't go wrong, there are plenty of volunteers around to direct you.  

 

We seem to be finally getting to some better weather!  Temperatures are supposed to be in the mid 70's and partly cloudy, but no rain in the forecast.  Should be a great day to be out with our LBC's.  Let's make it a great turnout.

Ronny, by the time the TR7 came out British Leyland had become less a car 
company than a "job" company.

It was totally politicized and served to keep the Labour government in power by 
buying union votes.

Absolutely nothing could have saved it.? If the above sounds sort of familiar 
think Detroit.

Had they designed the car with a proper laid back windshield it could have had

You should be able to replace the wheel studs without pulling the hub
off the axle.  As I recall it didn't require that much fussing and fiddling.
But I do have a hub puller, and Mike Bailey has a copy of it in case you
do need to end up pulling the flange off the axle.

Florian have you had your radiator checked. If the car has sat for a long time it could be that it needs to be cleaned at a radiator shop. Also have u checked your thermostat. Pugs

  Just a reminder that we will be doing a car show as part of the Cancer Society Relay for Life on August 19-20 at West Valley City Family Fitness Center.  I know we discussed this at the annual meeting, but I would like to get an estimate of how many cars to expect and the needs we might have.  Could you please let me know if you are planning on attending and what type of LBC you will bring.  Also, if any of you would like to participate in the fundraising part of the Relay, I would be happy to get you signed up on a team.
