Message-ID: Come One, Come All! The British Motor Club of Utah proudly announces their 2011 February Planning Meeting and Annual Pot Luck Dinner! This star studded evening of intrigue, romance and surprises is in a new location this year, The Columbus Center. Located at 2531 South and 400 East in South Salt Lake City, this venue has plenty of convenient parking and an interesting building history. Check out http://www.ssl.state.ut.us/recreation/columbuscenter.html or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus_Center for all the details. Saturday, February 26th is the date to circle on your calendar. We will have a "meet and greet" and start setting out the food begining at 6:00 P.M. with the dinner to begin at 7:00. The remainder of the evening will be our one and only business meeting and calendar planning session of the entire year! We're not really as well organized as that statement sounds, but we have a long and proud history of not filling up our calendar with meetings! This is your opportunity to voice your opinions, concerns and interests for the events of the coming year. Please bring your ideas, enthusiasm and a tasty dish for an evening of LBC talk and bench racing. In addition to the Delectable Pot Luck item of your choice, don't forget to bring your checkbook! Mitch Johnson and Paul "The Bag Man" Jaroch will have all of the Club Regalia that you have been waiting for. Be sure to congratulate Mitch on the "most excellent" new golf shirt. Likewise, the new Club Patch is available for sewing on to whatever you can think of! Car Badges, Decals, Key Fobs... the list is immense and you'll want one of everything.* *The Inevitable Disclaimers: Donations to the Club Treasury are always welcome. BYOB, (unfortunately NO alcoholic beverages allowed). Plastic silverware, plates and napkins will be provided. Please bring any serving utensils needed for your Pot Luck item. Currently, Utah reserves the vintage vehicle class only to vehicles 40 years old and older. Under the bill, vintage vehicles 30 - 40 years old would be charged a $45 annual registration fee. When the vehicle reaches 40 years old, the registrant would pay a one-time $40 fee. Vintage vehicles are exempted from annual emissions and safety inspections. The bill now moves to the Senate Rules Committee for consideration. We Urge You to Contact Members of the Utah Senate Rules Committee (List Attached Below) Immediately to Request Their Support for H.B. 221 7 Utah exempts vehicles manufactured prior to 1968 from emissions inspections. Vehicles manufactured after that date must be registered as vintage vehicles or customs to qualify for this exemption. 7 H.B. 221 acknowledges the relatively minimal environmental impact of older vehicles, such as the vintage vehicles targeted for inclusion in the vintage vehicle exemption. H.B. 221 recognizes that such vehicles constitute a small portion of the vehicle fleet and are well-maintained and infrequently operated. DONT DELAY! Please contact members of the Utah Senate Rules Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to request their support for H.B. 221. My opinion is the new Triumphs are nothing more than a Kawasaki. They just don't have the soul that the old bikes do and they sure don't look like one. I have also heard that parts for them are more expensive than for a BMW and nobody I know of is really happy with either dealership. I have a 72 Trident, all stock that I am looking to sell if your interested plus a 76 Bonneville Sturgis show winning chopper. Both of these are for sale if you or anybody else is interested. I also have a 1954 pre unit Triumph hard tail that I will keep as well as my Harley. I have a lot of friends in the Utah British Bike club that have the newer Triumphs and like them but they are not for me. I guess its kind of like buying a Miata instead of an MG. Good luck. And yet, on race day at Daytona many years ago I still found myself on a Yamaha factory racer. I think that is the difference between going fast just to go fast and really enjoying the ride. Now my British ride(TR3) has four wheels and I still love it! By all means, find a classic Triumph, Norton, BSA or other Brit Bike, there is no ride out there that provides the experience. I also will be sending out our "infamous" Lucas calendar in about a week after I finish making a few tweaks and adjustments. Many thanks go to everyone who did come to the meeting to help plan our summer of activities. It was a very successful and delicious event. I forgot to ask before we broke up last night, what did you all think of the location? Should we plan to hold next years event there also? Please tell me your opinion.
