that I don't really know if it is bad.

When it is idling it idles about 1500 rpm, but when I plug the hose that
goes into the valve cover it drops to about 700.  Is that normal?

I've replaced the rubber diaphragm and that had no effect.  I don't know if
it's the Valve or a problem with my engine letting in air (not good, it's
supposed to be sealed)

 It is time again to dust off the LBCs and go on the annual "Run around the
Lake".

10:00  am:            Meet the Checker Auto Parts in Kaysville, 317 W 200 S
(Just east of Wendy's).

10:30 am:             Departure, east up to Hwy 89,  north to Harrison Blvd.,
to Rainbow Gardens, (mouth of Ogden canyon) where we will let everyone
catch-up.  We will then head up Ogden Canyon, past Pine view Dam, around the
"Lake", through Eden, on to Liberty, then  up and over North Ogden divide.
The pull out still had substantial snow and had very limited parking space to
stop and take pictures.  The drop down the steep road into North Ogden will be
followed with a short drive down Washington Blvd. to Kirt's Family Drive Inn,
(a 50"s style drive in) 1974 N 400 E , for lunch and an impromptu car
display.

Is there a 'cars and coffee' meeting going to start anytime soon?  I'd like to
get something going in SLC or even up in Park City (closer to Kamas, where I
live).  Maybe we could drag out some show queens from the Park City area (not
that I have any dislike of rolling restorations or rusty MGBs) for a 'cars and
coffee' if it was on a regular basis.



I'm proposing a 'cars and coffee' meeting in Kimball Junction (just a few
miles north of Park City, near I-80) at the Starbucks not far from Smith's
grocery store.  Plenty of free parking and lots of outdoor seating.



Anyone interested?  How about Saturdays at 9am?  Any thoughts or preferences?



And it might be interesting if someone could forward this to other car clubs
in the area (Jaguar, A-Healey, American Muscle, Ferrari?).  My thought is that
less is going on early Sat. morning vs. later in the day.



I'd like seeing more classic cars out there, especially when I can get close
to them.

My MGB is not road worthy yet (something about completing and re-installing
the brake and clutch master cylinders, but who needs thoses anyway) so I may
show up and tag along in my '08 Bullitt. I know the Mustang is not little or
Brittish, but I need to keep the desire for getting the B on the road and
hanging with you guys is a great way to do that.

FYI 
I don't know if anyone else noticed the typo, but Checker is on 200 North ,not South. Take exit 328 and turn right onto 200 N. Checker is on the right/south side of the street.

I have to apologize to everyone, tax day must of really rattled me, I need the
relaxing drive!!!!
Checker Auto is located at 315 W. 200 N.  Those coming from the south, the
exit is Kaysville (#328),  turn right (East) and Checker Auto is on you right.
>From the north take #328 and of course turn left.   The meeting time is at
10:00 am for a 10:30 am departure.   The weather still shows Eden to be 68
degrees and partly cloudy.  I hope any one that wants to come on the drive and
does not have their LBC ready feels welcome to drive anything they want and
join the fun.  Thanks for the understanding on my morning stress, being late
for meetings and trying to send out a  reminder on the "run" early enough to
catch everyone.

Ok so i've had a huge series of problems with my mini. It all started with
replacing my fuel pump, which lead to the ignition coil burning out, the
starter solenoid and fuse box needed to be resoldered. Most of these things
were completely unrelated(as far as i can tell) they all just happened at
the same time. My latest problem was with spark. The distributor wasn't
working so i replaced the points and condenser. Ran fine for about 30sec and
died. So we added a ballast resistor but that prevented it from stating at
all. When we removed it again it ran for about 30 seconds and died. This
time however we found that the blue plastic in the points had completely
melted. My mechanic (who's been doing all of the work) is completely baffled
as to what could be causing the points to melt, like this especially in such
a short time. My mechanic set the points several times and he assures my
that there are very few people as experienced/skilled as him with adjusting
old mech ignition systems. Does anyone here have any idea what might be
causing something like this. I've gone ahead and ordered an electronic
ignition conversion kit, new coil, and spark wires from mini mania. I just
wanted to check to see if anyone might recognize a problem so that i don't
break something else when doing the conversion.

I would get the old system working before adding an electronic
ignition. The only time I have had points that look like they have
melted was caused by the high tension circuit jumping across to the
low tension. As I saw you had replaced the coil it might be that the
HT does not have a good path to the plugs. If the Ht has to jump
across a greater gap to ground than the spark plug itself, it will.
Also even if the HT has jumped to the LT even just once then the
condenser is shot and will need replacing.

To answer a few of the responses:
Yes i changed the the condensor.
It doesn't seem to be a short (or the lights would have burnt out as well)
The pump is a mechanical pump so no wires to speak of near it that might
have been josseled.
One theory that my mechanic has is possibly the alternator. but we can't
really test the voltage on it until i get in the electronic ignition
conversion kit (or new points). The yahoo answers suggesstion is worth
checking out although it basically says that we need a ballast and adding
ballast resistor is limits the current too much so that it doesn't spark.
Also the coil is brand new so i'm not confident in that post (but i'll check
it out none the less. Thanks for all of your help.

This is for Friday May 21 to Cedar City, Saturday May 22 to Zion Natl. Park,
Springdale, UT and driving home on Sunday May 23rd. We will likely meet at the
Chevron Station where highway 6 and I 15 intersect at probably 10am.  Some may

HEALEY DAYS

As I think you know Healey Days will be on Saturday 7/31 with other things
going on both Friday 7/30 and Sunday 8/1.  There is a large group of softball
players in town that week leaving on 8/1 so reservations are getting tight.
Later today you will be getting the details of how to reserve your room at the
Lodge at Park City Mountain Resort at a rate of $89 but they will only hold a
limited block of rooms for a week without a credit card guaranteed reservation
so please start thinking about your attendance and for how many nights.  We
also have reservations at the Grubsteak like last year for our Social hour,
Banquet, awards, auction etc. so I will also need to know if you are going to
be in attendance for that.

favor of a two-page amendment that would require all Members and their staffs
to enroll in any new government-run health plan..

                        It took me less than a minute to sign up to
                        require our congressmen and senators to drink at the
same trough!

Congressman John Fleming (Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment that
would require
                        congressmen and senators to take the same
                        healthcare plan they force on us (under proposed
legislation they are curiously exempt).

                        his Website and Sign his petition (very simple - just
email).

On a lighter note, while we're talking about things we find offensive, I had
someone tell me that I should sell my MGB because it was "a money pit" and
that I should "get a Mazda Miata, instead". He said it was basically the same
thing: small, open top, etc...

After about 5 years I now have my 57 TR3 (TS16441L) legally on the road in
Utah!!B  The car has been sitting for 41 years, but I have only had it for ~5
yrs.B  Fun to drive and little scary for someone who has never driven
anything
similar.B  My daily drivers are a 1992 MR2 turbo and an Audi allroad.B  Thanks

all of those who have answered questions along the way and to Mark for

Here is my question
When I went to drive the car the other day, the brake/clutch reservoirs were
empty (or at least nearly so).B  I had filled them and bled the system about
4
months earlier after replacing the seals in the brakes and the rubber lines.B 
I
did not do anything to the master cylinders, but the pedal seemed to be firm
and
everything was working fine.B  So I added a bunch of fluid and was able to
drive,
the brakes were a little spongy, and the clutch didn't feel like it was
totally
disengaging without pumping, but I assume it just needs bled.
B 
My question is, where could the fluid have gone?B  my first thought was the
master cylinder, but if that was the case, I would have expected one of the
baffles in the reservoir to be low.B  Should I replace seals in them anyway?,
sounds like a lot of work.

On another note, I tried last night to put the soft top on.B  I wasn't sure
how
to make it fit, so I tried attaching the top with the frame not fully erected

First off, congratulations on getting your TR3 back on the road. Well done.

I don't have any great suggestions for your fluid issue other than to
check all of your lines and connections carefully for leaks. Maybe pull
the master cylinders and see if there is any fluid present underneath them
(I'm not familiar with the mounting on a TR3).

Jeremiah,
Congratulations on getting on the road legally and for rescuing an obviously
neglected car (41 years is a long time between drives).  We more TR3s back
on the road! 

Re your top:  My old top is real tight as well, at this time I am still
lacking an inch or two of being able to stretch over the support rods.  My
plan is to wait until a nice hot/sunny day and leave it outside to warm it
up and then try to stretch into place. (WAIT, why am I putting the top up on
such a nice day?)  Not sure what is the proper procedure is, snap the top
and slide the rods into place or the other way around, perhaps some other
list member can chime in here as the owner manual doesn't really address
this.

Re your brakes:  Fluid can't disappear so you have a leak somewhere that you
have yet to discover.  Now that you are legal and sure to be using the car
more that once every four months I would re-fill and re-bleed everything to
get all the sponginess and double-pumping out of the system.  Then the first
place I would look is the inside of the wheels to see if there is fluid
stains on the inside of the tires, this would indicate a leaking wheel
cylinder.  Check under the dash, on the floor and around the MC area to see
if there are and MC leaks.  BTW, pulling and re-building the MC is not too
bad a chore for an afternoon.

They do come up on eBay every now and then, but you should probably be
prepared for a bit of a shock!  I am still looking for the earlier model
myself and they also sometimes come up and usually go for $50.00 to $75.00!

I had a problem with my clutch when I first got my TR3.  The car had been 
sitting unused for some time and the clutch need to be pumped in order to 
function properly.  It turned out that my problem was a collapsed hose to 
the slave cylinder.

I don't know if this helps but it may be another place to look.

Hello all, sadly I need to sell my spitfire due to job loss. I didn't see
this comming at all so I currently have a few parts of the car off and
laying around my garage.  But I'm working on getting them back on the car.
I'm willing to consider offers. I have about 6000 into it now. I'm hoping to
get like 4000 out of it. It has a new paint job, new seats and dash. Lots
and lots of new stuff. If any of you remember seeing it at the grantsville
car show it still looks like it did shining in the sunlight.
Any way my wife and I are pretty worried about the job loss. Let me know if
anybody is interested. Id like to see it go to a good home were somebody can
appreciate it.

the Tintic Mining Museum a club check for $50.00.  This area has been hit very
hard by the recent recession, the museum is run by volunteers and the only

Item 1 Mitch would like authorization to have new BMCU business cards 
printed. The old cards have Mike Scoggins phone # on them, so they are a 
little out of date. The cost will most likely be less than $50.00. 



Item 2 For the trip to Eureka on May 15th, I would like authorization to give 
the Tintic Mining Museum a club check for $50.00. This area has been hit very 
hard by the recent recession, the museum is run by volunteers and the only 
revenue is from donations. It is a very nominal way for us to show our 
support and thanks.

Is this still on considering the whether?  

I want to go, but won't be coming if it is raining or snowing.  My softtop
is ripped, and I don't have the hardtop installed, not to mention I have
never tried the sidescreens, but they don't look promising.

I have to apologize to everyone, tax day must of really rattled me, I need
the
relaxing drive!!!!
Checker Auto is located at 315 W. 200 N.  Those coming from the south, the
exit is Kaysville (#328),  turn right (East) and Checker Auto is on you
right.
>From the north take #328 and of course turn left.   The meeting time is at
10:00 am for a 10:30 am departure.   The weather still shows Eden to be 68
degrees and partly cloudy.  I hope any one that wants to come on the drive
and
does not have their LBC ready feels welcome to drive anything they want and
join the fun.  Thanks for the understanding on my morning stress, being late
for meetings and trying to send out a  reminder on the "run" early enough to
catch everyone.

BMCU'ers,



I'm the guy from Kamas who originally threw out the idea of a Sat. 5/1 cars
and coffee at the Starbucks in Kimball Jct, just north of Park City (not far
from I-80).  I'm hesitant now about getting out my MGB (am I crazy it's only
an MG--right?), but I'm not sure I want to turn the underside of it into a
salt lick.



That said, I might just show up in my Honda CRV to see if anyone turns up.
And, maybe if the roads really dry out by the end of Fri, I might be coaxed
into going.  If not, I'm up for making this a normal Saturday 9:00am meeting
for any type of interesting car (not just British).  So, for you brave souls
who show up tomorrow--Bravo!



Keep an eye on the melting roads.  See you tomorrow 5/1 or next Sat!
