Hi Again,

SALT LAKE COUNTY -- Two people-- including a 13-year-old boy-- remain in
critical condition after a car crash in Big Cottonwood Canyon. Witnesses told
deputies two sports cars were racing up the canyon road when one driver lost
control. Now they say another child was in the car that didn't crash.

A Lotus and a Porsche were involved in the alleged race.

"The people in that Lotus are definitely lucky to be alive," said Lt. Don
Hutson of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses told deputies that shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the driver of
an orange Lotus began racing a white Porsche up Big Cottonwood Canyon Road. As
they maneuvered through the turns about a mile up, near the Dogwood
Campground, the 46-year-old driver of the Lotus lost control.

Hutson said, "The Lotus lost control and kind of went off to the side of the
road, then overcorrected and then ended up going into oncoming traffic, where
it struck a BMW SUV that was coming down the canyon."

Deputies say two people in the silver BMW were OK. The driver of the Lotus and
his passenger, his 13-year-old son, were in more serious condition. Their car
took the majority of the impact from the crash, trapping them inside.

"(It was) basically because of the low profile vehicle and how it struck the
BMW," Hutson explained.

About two hours after the crash, the white Porsche the Lotus was following up
the canyon came back to the scene. Investigators questioned the driver, who
had a 4-year-old child with him at the time of the crash.

"He did say he was in proximity to the actual crash but denied any involvement
in racing, or anything like that," Hutson said.
