Trappers Loop that is. It's again time for the British to retake trappers rights and leave our oil spots in Weber & Ogden Canyons. Mark your calendars for Sunday, July 13th. We will meet once again at the east end of the Hogle Zoo parking lot between 9:00-9:30 AM for a departure shortly thereafter. We'll cruise up Emigration Canyon over to East Canyon and down into Morgan where we'll stretch our legs and grab a drink/snack at the Chevron station and then head on up to Mountain Green. We will then take SR-226 (provided it is clear and open) up past Snow Basin, then down the canyon on the greatest road for our LBC's around, where we will come out at Pine View Reservoir and then down Ogden Canyon where we will again this year enjoy some fantastic outdoor fare at The Oaks eatery. (hopefully not much wait, just like last year.) At that point we will disband and the rest of the day is yours! Hope to see you all there!! --Clayton Merchant From rogerdavis87 at msn.com Mon Jul 14 09:56:02 2008 From: rogerdavis87 at msn.com (R J DAVIS) Date: Mon, 14 Jul 2008 09:56:02 -0600 Subject: [Bmcu] Trappers Loop - One Perspective Message-ID: The Trappers Loop run had started off spectacularly. The mountains were still green because of our late Spring/Summer, the purple wild flowers as we reached the top of East Canyon were awesome, and the weather was just the right temperature as we traveled in our LBC's. Now, my day was hot, dusty, dark and greasy! >From where I was making this observation, I really couldn't see much more than the feet of people standing near the Sunbeam and the tires of cars whizzing past on the Ogden Canyon road, just a few feet away. What I did have a good view of was the underside of our Sunbeam and the raw gas running down my right arm as I held my thumb over the hole in the rubber gas line. Oh, and my left hand was pinching the line, back by the electric fuel pump, in an attempt to stop the flow of fuel out of the gas tank. To catch you up on this tale: After we had our stop in Morgan, UT to get fluids and have one of our group 'visit' with the local Sheriff, Jill and I began to smell raw gas as we traveled. Accompanying this was the gas gauge plummeting towards 'Empty'. When we reached the left turn to head to Ogden Canyon, we turned right and headed to the gas station that was just down the road. We didn't have enough gas to make it to Ogden even though we had filled up (11 gallons) the night before! I looked under the car when I was filling the tank and saw fuel running out from under the car nearly as fast as I was pumping it in. Jill and I decided that we were destined not to ever have lunch at the Oaks, because we decided to head for home, figuring we would need at least one more fuel stop before reaching Salt Lake. We stopped at the Oaks and found the BMCU group and told them that we were heading for home. That's when the 'fun' started for me. Clayton Merchant and John Progress wouldn't hear of us not having lunch and said that we needed to fix the fuel line right there, right then. Larry offered his hydraulic floor jack that he 'just happened' to have. A quick look determined that it would be best to drive the right side of the Alpine up onto the dirt berm to be able to get under the car safely. So that's where I was, under the Sunbeam, with arms outstretched, watching fuel run down my arm and also onto the muffler. Seems that the fuel line had not been tied up far enough when I had replaced it and had been rubbing on the universal joint at the differential. Clayton got partially under the car to take over the job of pinching the fuel line and John kept us supplied with tools as we called for them. Clayton saw a piece of my old plastic fuel line still on the car, and suggested we cut a section off, and use it to go between the two sections of good hose after I had cut the bad section out. That's what we did and John provided zip ties to use in place of hose clamps. We tested it and the repair held the pressure from the electric pump with no leaks. The cost? One BMCU shirt, and one brake line Clayton sacrificed at a first attempt fix. Not bad! What was really fun was when I went into the restaurant, all greasy and dirty from being under the car, and asked where the restrooms were. The look on the hostess' face when she looked at me was really funny. Cost of lunch: $25 Two tanks of gas: $60 BMCU comraderie of Clayton & John: Priceless Glad we were able to have lunch with everyone for the first time, celebrate Sharon's birthday and to provide the entertainment! The tour was an awesome way to spend a beautiful Sunday morning. See you all at the Alpine Loop Tour next month. Roger Davis 1906 E. The BMCU's 20th anniversary and this years Alpine Loop and raffle are soon to become a reality. First order of business is food. This year the BMCU board will be providing the lunch at the Heber City park. I need to get a rough idea as to how many folks will be having burgers and how many would like franks? I'll take your emails and tally the information prior to heading off to do the grocery shopping. Please keep in mind that it is against the law to bring alcoholic beverages to any parks in Heber, that's all I'm saying about that. We will also be providing sodas, water and sides. Second, there has been mention of naming one of the annual events in memory of Michael Scoggins. I very nice gesture indeed, but those of us who knew Michael well have talked it over and we believe that he in his quiet way would probably not go for it, and as Paul said: with his twisted sense of humor would probably make it rain that day anyway! It will be nice at the Heber picnic to raise a glass of remembrance to our comrade. He would of liked it that way. Third, if you know of, or have any donations to add to our raffle stash, the more the merrier! Forth, we will also be unveiling the new BMCU T-shirts (20th Anniversary edition) and hopefully the new Golf shirts too! Date and time: August 16th, 9am at South Town Mall for a 10am departure. A small group of volunteers will make their way to Heber ahead of the rest of the group to hopefully have lunch hot and ready as the cars roll into town. Mitch D. I won't be able to make it to the Loop run this year, but put me down for a hot dog anyhow. 2. With so many of us at "that age" it does not make sense to name an event after Michael or anyone else who leaves this world. I mean no insult to Michael. Hell, we'd would soon have more dead guys than time for events! I think a toast to Michael and his contributions to the club, and more so, to humanity through his craft and his music is more in line with what he would have wanted. 3. I spent the entire weekend painting the living room. I kept the AC off in order to shorten time between coats. No conversation, no music, no nothing. I thought a lot about Michael and Mary. I worry about Bruce. He has sent a couple strange mails lately. I hope he is OK. I thought about you and what a good friend you have always been to anyone and everyone. I just want you to know that I appreciate you and Diane and hold you among those folks that I count as close friends. I miss all of the BMCU and the fun we had and I am glad to see the fun continue under your leadership. I hope to see you again this year. Cheers my friend! I thought I mentioned to you the other day when I saw you at Deer Valley when I told you about it that it conflicted with the Alpine Loop drive and that you could only attend if you weren't going on that. I asked Gary Lindstrom if he thought it would be ok to email the BMCU for those who weren't going to attend the Alpine Loop drive to attend Healey Days and he thought that would be ok.
