Jeff:
I'm afraid you have the interpretation of multiple viscosity oils turned
around. The smaller number refers to the ability to flow at cold
temperatures and the higher number represents viscosity when fully warmed
up. You need the 10 weight to get good oil circulation when starting the
car, and yes, that is more critical in winter than in summer.
