I understand Martha Wheat at Pro-Prep Interiors may have reproduction vinyl covers. Before I go for the vinyl....does anyone have any leather covers. Originally my tiger had the early MK1 seats with the wide pleats ....now I have a set of the later MKIA or MKII seats with the narrow pleats. The original seats in my tiger were really in poor shape and with the help of Doug at Tiger Auto I was able to obtain a set in better shape. Unfortunately... a seam has opened up on the drivers seat and now I need to decide either to recover, replace or repair. I may go back to the original wide pleat seats - if they are available. Thoughts and or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Kirt Jenssen B9473199 Chicago, Illinois **************Planning your summer road trip? Check out AOL Travel Guides. The front two points of the X are located just outside the two latches while the rear two ponts of the X locate everything with the loops fitting overthe latches. On top, I moved the intersection of the X until I found the balance point, and tied in a lifting point there so that the top would stay in approximate mounting position when lifted. The loops were tied in using #14 copper wire scraps. With this setup, I can drive the car underneath the top and lower it in place . This Speedometer seems to have been intended for a 4:22 rear-axle Alpine. This was the alternate setting. I don't have time at the nonce to dig out my archive of Rootes Group parts manuals (shucks, I have a LOT of these) but will do so if this would be helpful. Operating from memory, which is always dangerous, I believe that a lot of Alpine IV's came with the 4:22 rear end and all Alpine V's did so, but I certainly could be wrong. My Alpine literature is buried at the bottom of a stack of boxes and I just had to exhume it to answer a query over on the Tiger List about stock wheels. It would seem that you have a 4:22 speedo fitted to a 3:89 rear-end. Again, I will be happy to dig out the literature if this would help. It would help us if you would provide the body s/n. A Series V, of course, certainly could have a 3:89 rear axle for a number of reasons. Marc msmall at aya.yale.edu Cha robh b`s fir gun ghr`s fir! Stu, the memo cautioning the use of Tiger wheels for competitive events is actually on page 19 of the Sunbeam 260 Owners Handbook. To drive home the message sooner, some handbooks had an additional sticker affixed to the inside of the front cover with the same admonition, 'The standard tyres and road wheels fitted to this car are not considered suitable for use in competitive motoring events...'along with the warning not to take advantage of the valance aperture to hand crank the (Tiger)motor, as the radiator is in the way. DA. Gary, when I asked when the Rootes production line started using the Tiger road wheel for Alpines, I didn't have any inside knowledge. It's just a common decision with car makers that, given a change in specifications for a replacement part, if a part is deemed to fit more models, it makes more financial sense to order more of the replacement part and use it as well on the assembly line, and try for a price concession from the supplier in exchange for the larger order. If the car maker thinks there's a safety issue with the old part, that's even more incentive. There's always the possibility that, like the Ford 260 engine, they ordered so many ahead of time that they chose to use up remaining stock on the Alpines before ordering and switching to the Tiger wheel. It would be interesting to figure out a definitive way to tell the difference between what was supposed to be the Alpine wheel and a real Tiger wheel, but for most Alpine folks who haven't owned their cars for forty years, who knows if the previous owner didn't swap wheels knowingly or not. Does this mean there is no way to tell the difference? I thought the rivets were different or something else. -----Original Message----- From: alpines-bounces+wiencek=anl.gov at autox.team.net [mailto:alpines-bounces+wiencek=anl.gov at autox.team.net] On Behalf Of rande Sent: Friday, April 18, 2008 6:03 PM To: tigers at autox.team.net Cc: alpines at autox.team.net Subject: Re: [Alpines] Tiger wheels Sorry to responding late. I thought he was looking for an Alpine, but I guess he wants a Tiger. No accounting for taste. Anyone know of a car that fits his description? I don't care what year it is. Something original and rough with a minimum of rust. It sounds as though you are very familiar with Sunbeams and would be a great resource in finding a decent car. If there is a time that you are available to talk cars, I would look forward at the opportunity to meet and talk Sunbeams. A little about me. I have restored quite a few cars in the past including a Healy 100-4, MGB, Bugeye Sprites, and others. Along with teaching Auto Mechanics for 19 years, I have a strong automotive background. Thanks, Rob Hollingsworth
