Tim,

I know this issue has been talked about many times in the past
but my advice is to replace the stock pump with a Facet or similar
pump mounted close to the fuel tank. Remove the mechanical pump
and replace with a blocking plate.

I mounted a fuel regulator where the pump was on all my 3
Triumphs. The 4 was done first well over 15 years ago and no
problems. The 3 followed a year later and when I did my 72 6 it
got the same treatment.

All 3 have been flawless. No leaks, drips or errors! And when I
turn on the ignition, the carbs are primed by the time I pull out
the choke!

A few weeks back I discovered
that the factory-original OE mechanical fuel pump on my TR6
was leaking fuel into the crank case - not a good situation!
I bought a rebuild kit but was shocked to learn that the ONE
seal which isn't included/available is the crucial one which
seals the "fuel stream" (that is, the part of the pump through
which fuel passes) from the crank case.

So, I then bought one of the
"OE reproduction" pumps from Moss. Looked very nice, has the
manual priming lever, etc. I fitted it to the car, took it
for a drive, and thought "great, another job completed". A
few hours later I went into the garage and was hit with the
strong smell of gasoline. The BRAND NEW pump was leaking from
the top cover, resulting in a big puddle of fuel under the
car. I've also determined that the manually priming lever
doesn't function!! Needless to say, the new pump is going in
the trash.

Question for all of you - can
you recommend a company who does high-quality work rebuilding
our OE mechanical fuel pumps? I'm not interested in buying
another reproduction from Moss. I want to get my
factory-original pump rebuilt and hopefully have it last
another 50 years!!
