Hey John,

It's not the correct fix of course, but why don't you try my trick of
shimming out the slave cylinder with two stacks of washers. You need about a
half inch of shim, shouldn't need longer bolts but maybe. I'm telling you it
worked for me for years, until I had the internal fork issue fixed. As I said
before (not trying to be a know-it-all) but there's no way this symptom is
related to the oil level. The oil doesn't get up to the clutch plate. You can't
get it into gear because it's spinning, not because it's low on oil.

Now, I didn't have a broken fork pin, so the shims may not help, but worth a
try. You're going to have to get the tranny pulled to replace that fork
pin. I'm not certain, but I believe working once, and then back to the
same problem, is a big indication of the fork pin being sheared. It slips back
around to the correct spot and works once, and then it's out of alignment again
and doesn't work at all.

The biggest advice I can give you is this. Fix the Maxima! A Triumph doesn't
like being counted on as primary transportation. They can tell. Ever wonder why
everybody you meet at a gas-station 'used' to have one?

good luck,
