 I have to second this advice.  Brakes are not a good place to scrimp.  If the engine doesn't work, you don't go.  If the brakes don't work you don't stop.
Actually you will stop.  Sometimes you can walk away from it.

I so hate watching a 30 minute commercial for the parts used.  
Regarding MC rebuild, some good advice once received was (1) rebuild clutch parts, (2) buy new brake parts. The difference seems obvious. 
Also, fix the brakes first. You can walk home from all else.
