Another hot day is forecast for today so I plan to get my car work (play?) done early. Two jobs are in the queue, neither of which involves the Maserati, strangely enough! :-P The first is filling two petrol jugs with fuel and heading to my shop. The Triumph TR6 ran out of gas while moving it about yesterday. My grandson and I ended up pushing it into position, ready for tomorrow's transport. Once the TR6 is fueled, its back to the house to spend an hour or so on the MG TD. That car is to get the other half of its tune up. Specifically, the timing will be checked, and adjusted as required, valves adjusted, and the SU carburetors will get cleaned and the linkage lubricated. The car will get a new brake master cylinder, but not today. Rather, a garage cleanup is needed first so the master cylinder job can happen cleanly and efficiently. As much as I have enjoyed working on the Biturbo, it's nice that I now don't have to do so! It's running great. Yesterday, the car started at the first turn of the key and ran great as I moved cars around. After completing a few more competing projects, the car will get regular use. You? How are you spending your Sunday? Any LBC projects in the queue. I know some of you are contemplating winter storage and maintenance projects for your cars, but for us on America's south coast, its driving season! Message-ID: Good evening friends, Today started off a little rough. I have not been feeling well and today was no exception. Still, I motored off to the shop in the Porsche. That act alone made me feel a little better. The TR6 started just fine, as expected, and the Cayman went into storage. I drove the 'six' out to the front of my shop's complex, for easier loading. See attached photo. The car loaded on the transport without incident. The still-to-be final-bled brakes held, even as we loaded the car on the flatbed truck. We motored to my mechanic's shop where the car unloaded with similar lack of aplomb, if unwarranted. I dropped off the keys at the front desk and bummed a drive back home from the shop's front office lady. After a small lunch I felt chilled - which is hard to do in Houston's heat! :-P My wife did a quick check and verified a low-grade fever. I went to bed and slept over 3 hours. This evening I feel better...and I don't believe that its just the Tylenol talking. Last dose was over 5 hours ago, but I haven't tested again for fever. Earlier I had some rice and applesauce with no I'll effects. I may survive this. I hope so! I've got a TR6 to get to the paint shop! As I wrote a couple of days ago, my TR6 project car went to the local mechanic for a brake hydraulics service and a handbrake adjustment. Unfortunately but not unexpectedly, work on the car got delayed while other higher paying jobs moved ahead of it in the queue. And that is fine with me, and part of our agreement. I get reduced costs by allowing Jaime to fit my car tasks in between bigger paying jobs. Win-win, unless I'm under a time crunch, which he then accommodates. This is not that case, so I wait...and so does the paint shop. The plus side is that payment for the respray now goes on next month's card billing cycle.:-) Rick -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This makes me wonder why they might have been masked when nothing else was, or, if they weren't in their holes when the engine got painted. Either way, I wouldn't worry about paint on an engine you're going to tear apart anyway. You will certainly have to remove the paint from manifold surfaces on the head, oil filter land, etc, but that should only require some minor elbow grease with a fine sand paper...not enough to scratch the surfaces badly. Don't start with anything too coarse. A wire brush wheel could also be a good idea. If there's any doubt that the rocker vent wasn't taped shut, pull the rocker cover and make sure there aren't any blobs of paint covering the rocker arm oil holes. Who knows what kind of paint was used or how heavily it was applied. Err on the side of caution but you should be fine. It has/had overtones of cream. This side of pond (in U.K.) everyone selling a white classic car of any make, always refers to it as being OEW. Don?t know why but it?s become a generic. Glad the paint code list helped. It?s all out there - you just have to throw a large net, use lots of different search criteria and just drill. Thanks Jon. I too have been wondering about a certain Triumph color. Pearl White. My '54 Long Door TR2 was originally Pearl White with blue interior and there is lots of white left in certain areas, but I don't see any pearl in it. Can anyone comment on this Triumph color? In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Update: Yes, I should have taken the bumpers off but the bolts are so rusted that they would have either broken or would have had to be sawed off. I chose the easier path since this a driver, not a 'correct' show car. The paint color is incorrect but again, a driver. The color is GM Cobalt Red if applied as a two stage with extra clear. Subsequent dings and problems can now be touched up with paint from any autoparts store in the States. The shop painted the underside of the bonnet and deck lids as well as inside the trunk. Door edges and jams are resprayed now too. They did not paint the engine bay. I want to do that myself, preserving labels, etc., and now can easily do so. I have not yet decided whether to spray the Kamm back satin black, or to leave it in red. I had them paint it red so I would have the choice. They did not paint below the lower chrome trim strip. I will respray that black. Same with the front spoiler. It will also get resprayed black. Rubber bumper protrusions too. Same satin black. I will not replace the British Leyland badges to the sides. British Leyland all but destroyed England's motorcar industry, like most things a government touches. I don't plan to replace their badges-of-failure on my car. This car also had the TRIUMPH letters and stripe down the lower sides, just above the trim strip. It will not be replaced. I haven't decided whether to apply the flag and 'TR6' letters on the sides ahead of the tail lights. I can add those at any time, if desired. The car comes home tomorrow and reassembly will begin.
