Dear TRF Customer,
TRF had a great week of sales, and we credit some of this to the Free Shipping Offer and Discounts offered over the past week. We are continuing to offer great prices, a $25.00 order sweetener, and Free Shipping on orders over $100.00 during the coming weekend which we think will be our peak for Christmas shopping. These offers are described in the first three headlines above.
The big shipment described by Albert last time did finally arrive from England, and many parts on backorder will be shipped on Friday or Monday. We received lots of T-shirts this week, but we will not receive the new Jabbeke badge shirts till Monday or Tuesday. All sizes of the classic marque shirts will be in stock now in all five colours. An unexpected small shipment is also arriving in a day or so from England along with a very large shipment from Taiwan (not China). I have been itching all week to see the Jabbeke badge T-shirts, but it took the printers a little longer than expected because of the number of colours.
TRF’s artist, Karen Border, finished the illustration and page design of a new chapter for the TR2, TR3 Glove Box Companion (Catalogue) on “Rubber Body Seals and Gaskets.” I am very proud of this catalogue section. The products are all in stock, the prices are great, and all of the parts are the best of their kind in the market place. The catalogue pages are very attractive and well-illustrated. Just click on this link to take a look<http://trf.zeni.net/TR2-TR3GB/index.php?page=239>...
As Karen has worked on the “Rubber” section of the catalogue, I have moved on to body fittings, windscreens, bumpers, grilles, and other fittings. I have been romping through the sections, having a great time working with parts I know and trying to get everything I have learned over the years down on paper for future customers. The rest of the chapters of the catalogue will be posted as Karen finishes with page design and illustration. She is providing her best efforts to give TR2 and TR3 enthusiasts a great parts catalogue that provides originality information and assembly notes. I intend to finish the catalogue this spring, but the final publication date will depend on how quickly the pages can be designed and illustrated. With highest quality as the goal, this is not a quick process. In the mean time, the catalogue will be available, chapter-by-chapter, on the website, where you can see a big part of it right now<http://trf.zeni.net/TR2-TR3GB/>.
One detail on which I have been working this week is TR2 fender bead or “wing piping” as it is described in the parts catalogue. If anyone has bits of bead they will not be able to use because it is in bad condition, I would love to have some sample pieces. The TR2 fender bead was made of plastic extruded in body colours with either a full circle of bead or a half circle, this varying from car to car. I want to study the possibility of making this product, but although I have drawings, I need some actual samples. I am wondering if it could be produced in a neutral colour for painting as required to avoid making six colours, including geranium and olive yellow.
I have a couple of photos to share with you this week. One is from my friend John Cox in Fredericksburg, Virginia. You will remember photos of his project car a few weeks back. This week, he sent me a photo of the center dash panel from his TR3A. These, like early MGB dashes, are painted in black crinkle finish paint in a process which usually requires baking for a while in the oven. John’s son, Ron, did the refinishing on John’s center dash. If you don’t want to go through this process yourself, you can buy a completely refinished center dash with all instruments and switches refurbished to concours standards by another friend, Frank Conklin, in San Diego. I don’t know if Frank would want me to publish his address, but you can get it from Albert if Frank agrees. Certainly, Albert can get you in touch with Frank. Frank has done a large number of dashes, and he has developed the expertise to make all repairs to a very high standard. Many of Frank’s dashes are fitted to concours cars all over the U.S. Use this link to see a photo of John Cox’s dash<http://the-roadster-factory.com/Images/POTW/POTW-5.html>, and you can see photos of Frank’s products on eBay.
A second photo<http://the-roadster-factory.com/Images/POTW/POTW-6.html> was sent by Paul Wittrock of Ventura County, California. Paul was worried by my recent comment that I may not get back to TR2 and TR3 again because I have just turned 72. I do expect to continue to work for another five or ten years, but there is much to be done, as I want to do a great job on TR2 and TR3 and then move on to other models. Paul Wittrock has a 1961 TR3A that his dad pulled out of a field in Virginia in 1972 “to give him something to do.” Paul applauds his dad’s foresight, and thanks “guys like us” for giving him “decades of enjoyment, challenge, and fun.” His photo shows his car on a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur earlier this year. It is a very satisfying job to deal with guys like Paul and John and Frank. I never plan to retire, and I will spend a lot of my future time in recording all that I know and trying to organize the original parts, samples of interior components, and literature for use by future enthusiasts. Thankfully, I have Albert and TRF staff to help with all of this...
Before I finish, I want to call your attention to the Semi-Annual Trim Sale, now in progress. You can find listings for all types of trim for all of the models serviced by The Roadster Factory. Prices are very keen, but they will be refigured after the beginning of the year. Right now, you will save $400.00, $500.00, or more on an interior for your car, an interior that will compete in concours anywhere. All five of the trim sections are headlined above...
This is crunch time for Christmas Shopping 2018, and as usual, I am behind schedule in choosing family gifts. If you are in the same boat, and you have Triumph or MGB enthusiasts on your gift list, TRF would be thrilled to help. There are lots of great deals. Please take a good look at what we have on offer...
Your friend,
Charles A. Runyan
