I knew I was going to repaint it and put on all new hardware for the restoration so I just wanted a good steel shell. I found and bought this top and started looking for all new parts. I wanted new headliner, chrome parts, etc for the restoration but found that even 17 years ago, these parts were not available. I decided to buy a new top and the one I found was $3500 in a crate. I was going to buy it if I was not able to find an almost new top within 3 months. I hit the lottery and found a new take off top – a top that the owner took and put away in a climate controlled area on top of his garage. Basically he said the car was to be driven with the top down and as soon as he got the new TR^ home from the dealer, he took the hardtop off and stored it. I was able to buy it for $1200 17 years ago. It was yellow and my car was burgundy so I was going to have to paint it, but the crated top would also have to be painted, so I bought it. My TR6 was getting ready to be painted and so I took off every trim piece on the top and took pictures and put it away so I could paint the top and then reassemble it.

So with no TR6 and the drive to start another restoration gone, I have that first hardtop I bought and all of the new parts from the take-off top that I am selling. The top has sat in my garage and the glue holding the liners has let go but the headliner was never in really good shape, the fuzzy rubber seals are totally shot. Basically the top is not in very good shape except for the actual metal top.

The original glue is yellowed on the part that sticks to the metal, but new glue has to be used anyway. You can make a concourse hardtop out of what is for sale.
