Colin is spot on. I have had both issues. As you have to pull the tranny it's a proper time to address the weak spots. As it has been a long time since I dealt with this problem ( 10 YRS) I can from elder memory
recommend the Gunst throw-out bearing kit. I think I purchased it from TRF. Beware of cheap imitaions. Hope this helps.

It's your pressure plate but you probably won't see the problem. It distorts when it's hot. Yes..replace everything. Always.\

Thanks guys for all the input. It appears as though I will need to take
out the transmission and look at the clutch to see what part failed or
is failing. I would guess the consensus would be to replace the whole
thing while I have it out, right? I replaced the clutch probably only
18 years ago, but only put on about 25,000 miles. But I did let it sit
a couple of years and the plate was stuck and I had to break it loose.
Now it is my daily driver so it is getting lots of use.

Thanks all,

Dale

a friend has a 74 TR6, which he bought new. parked it about 1987 in a barn, and we are now in the process of resurrecting it. it is in reasonable shape; it was an Illinois car and there is some surface rust on the body, but nothing horrendous (now it is safely here in Texas). the interior is also in reasonable condition. of course, if this car were on ebay there would be ?no rust? and the interior would be ?excellent.?

so far, so good ? the engine turns over nicely by hand! yes, we are taking it slow; we want to preserve this car; it has about 70k miles on it and is pretty original.

we have run into an interesting snag ? the trunk won?t open. by looking at my 72, it appears the trunk is unlocked ? the larger part of the opening for the key lock is on the bottom. we can?t turn the lock with the key, and can?t push it in. lightly tapping with a mallet does nothing. pushing up or down on the trunk lid does nothing.

any thoughts/comments/direction?

just for the story ? he has recently retired here in Texas to be with the kids and grandkids, and noticed me driving my TR6 around. he actually lives across the alley and over one from me!

On my 74, purchased new in Illinois, when the large part of the opening for
the key lock is pointing down, my trunk is locked.

On a 71 the trunk is locked with key teeth pointing down.
The button will move maybe 1/16th or so even with trunk locked.
Try soaking around that button with your favorite rust buster spray???

Can someone on the list please send me a photo (off line) of an original
radio installation with the factory bezel and knobs for a 72 TR6? If
other years are similar that?s OK. I have an original AM/FM but I made a
fake bezel and wrong knobs several years ago and would like to know what
the factory install looks like.
?
Thank you.
