[6pack] New Clutch

Correction...
In 2000 I bought a LUX kit from TRF. I paid $139. I doubt it came with the Gunst style bearing. BPNW carries that bearing and brass sleeve for $130 part number GRB211HD. Not sure which pressure plate and clutch disk to buy to go with the Gunst bearing if that setup is desired. So confusing.
All I know is when I bought the 3 piece LUX kit and the pilot bushing, everything seems to work great. On TRF site. Blue book. There is a listing for a Laycock brand 3 piece set for $184 RFK116. Must be what I bought but the prices have climbed. I had a fourth gear shaft to use for alignment. So I didn't need the 5 piece LUX set currently being sold by BPNW.

So it seems the vote is to find an original Laycock clutch set. I saw one sell on eBay not long ago for close to the price of the magic clutch set. Not clear which plate and bearing to use with an original pressure plate. I read the original clutch will have aged and need new silicon grease packed somewhere...the clutch plate springs? Again, confusing.

So I am still not sure what would be the best clutch set.

Also, I read about aligning the transmission to the engine...what does that entail beyond lining the locating pins and bell housing bolts. Seems to me there is no room for mis-alignment! Wow. I must have gotten lucky.

I should mention, I replaced my clutch because of chatter felt in the rear end / transmission when I let the clutch out. Something was not releasing. Bearing, loose clutch plate...something. But the kit I installed in 2000 fixed it.

So what is the best solution???
A mix of Gunst bearing and original pressure plates?

Hi Steve and all.

I believe I went with the Sachs and gunst bearing last time I was addressing chatter / vibrating clutch when I released the pedal. That was back in 1999 and many many miles ago. I plan to double check - as my setup works awesome.

Dale, If you can get a copy of Nelson Reidel's piece on a 100,000 mile clutch it would be worth your while. A combo of cross drilling to improve the fork stability, a Sachs pressure plate and Gunst throw out bearing is the main theme. I do believe I still have the piece but see if you can pick it up thru the 6-Pack. Ashford Little might be able to dig it up for you. We both have the system in our Sixes with fantastic results. I have installed this package on 3 TR'S. A beautiful working smooth clutch.

OK, now that it was determined that I should replace the clutch, what
does everyone like? I was thinking about using TRF Magic Clutch.

Any opinions out there?
