[6pack] Ugh. Problems starting. Baffled.

Ok. Visiting the car for my annual trip back 'home'. 
Car started fine. New battery. New alternator. Now. Engine chugs slowly while trying to start. Jump start didn't even work  with cables from another car. But pop. Roll. Starting did work of course. I clean all connections. 
Beginning to wonder if it is the starter motor. 
Grrrr. I tried tapping on it while the key is turned. Didn't do it. 

Ideas? 
I can't think what else it is. 
Cables feel hot while trying to start. 
I looked for grounds. Didn't see any.
