[6pack] TR6 Oil Cooler

I would not get an oil cooler without the thermostat. The question is IF your car needs one at all. The oil has to reach a certain temperature to provide optimal lubrication properties. Lowering the temperature could work against that. I would not worry about the low pressure reading if you are using quality oil suitable for your motor.
If the concern is over heating the motor, a thermostatically controlled electric fan is a much better investment. Plus it reduces drag on your motor. If you know that your cooling system is in good shape - clean radiator and water passages - then an oil cooler won't do you much good.
IF your motor has been modified to provide more performance then it's probably a good idea. I had one on my car as insurance because the motor had a supercharger.
Regards,
Jim

Hello All,
I am considering adding an oil cooler (13 row) to my 74 TR6. TRF has them on sale and now may be a good time to purchase. I run 20-50 and really only drive the car in the summer. I have noticed a drop in pressure as the car warms up to around 10-15PSI at idle. My questions are do I need to add a thermostat? When changing the oil how to you get old oil out of the cooler, or do you need not worry about that? Any other concerns I should be aware of.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
Robert
