On CF29457UO, a 74.5 built in Dec. 74, which I have owned since new, 
the original
cable is exactly as Bob describes.

The bottom tab-- the one to the engine plate-- rests under a hex nut 
on the "radiator-side"
of the flange.

The cable is bare, tinned copper braid.
