Hi everyone, Yesterday I was working on my 3.5 engine (8.13:1) and found that I had two gudgeon pin (wrist pin) heavily rusted. I think that those parts are not sold separately. My pistons are OK. Do you know where I can get them. Maybe some of you kept some when replacing pistons for higher compression. An other question is when installing piston rings, they says in the manual to install them between the gudgeon pin and the thrust face of the piston. What and where is the thrust face of the piston? I speak french and the dictionary didn't help! Hello Philippe, Thrust face is the top of the piston. The problem reusing used wrist pins is that they wear in sort of egg shaped pattern over time on the connection to the rod, the piston holes and pin itself. Installing a used one of different wear pattern will probably give you a rod knock. Is a new set of pistons out of the question? They are commonly available in sets complete with rings and pins for about $400 a set, sometimes less. But, if you gotta have one, I have some spares somewhere in my garage in a box. At very minimum, you would install the piston with the same used wrist pin if it is within wear tolerances, but caution, again, proper procedure is to have the pistons resized for new pins or replace the piston assembly complete. What and where is the thrust face of the piston? I speak french and the dictionary didn't help! < Philippe, je parle englais et je ne peu pas comprendre aussi. Seriously, the thrust face is the side of the piston where the maximum pressure is applied against the cylinder wall. As the piston moves down the cylinder the crank rotates and the bottom end of the piston rod moves off to one side. The pressure of the combustion gases pushes down on the piston but the rod pushes up at an angle and the result is there is an uncompensated sideways force exerted on the piston that forces it into the cylinder wall. This is the thrust side. Which side is it? Sometimes the pistons are marked indicating the thrust side. They are usually marked "Front." But if the pistons have been used these markings may e obscurred. I can't remember which way the engine turns but I think it is counterclockwise (anticlockwise) (dans le sens contre des aguilles d'une montre) which means, as you look at the engine from the front, the bottom of the rods will move off to the left making the thrust face the right side. I have never paid attention to this detail when assembling engines, I mostlypaid attention to staggering the ring gaps evenly so that they didn't line up. J'espair que je vous aide un peu. Si je peu l'expliquer en francais, je fisse. Apparently the Goodyear LRE tyres are bursting all over the place causing an unacceptable number of fatal accidents. The program maintains that GoodYear knew about the apparent design flaw but felt it was more economic to pay the damages for deaths than fix the problem. GoodYear did improve the LRE's by adding a nylon cap to prevent the treads from flying off. If you have a notation on your Goodyear LREs that they have 2 layers of Nylon then you are OK (hopefully) - If not, go very slowly to your tyre store and have them changed - and then claim against GoodYear.
