No real rules or protocol for cars allowed--bring what you like. Meeting actually north of Park City at Kimball Junction Starbucks parking lot, just south of I-80. If coming from I-80 (Salt Lake or points east) take the exit to Park City, and take your first left when you are at the stoplight with McDonald's (the second left will get you there as well). Both lefts are at stoplights. Weather should be good, and the road salt should be gone due to last week's precipitation. I'll have my MG out (probably drive there with top up, and leave with the top down). This year we will resurrect the trip on May 15th. You may want to bring a warm jacket for this trip because if you're going topless (OK, I'm talking about without a convertible roof) we'll be going over a fairly high pass (about 6,500 ft.) and it may be a little chilly. Eureka was originally known as Ruby Hollow before it developed into a bustling mining town. Incorporated as a city in 1892, Eureka became the financial center for the Tintic Mining District, a wealthy gold and silver mining area in Utah and Juab counties. The district was organized in 1869 in the East Tintic Mountains, southwest of Utah Lake. If you would like to see some pictures iin advance of the trip check out http//www.ghosttowns.com/states/ut/eureka.html. We will marshal at the Fresh Market (formally Albertsons) grocery store parking lot on the borth west corner of 12600 South and Redwood Road in Riverton at 10:00 AM for a 10:30 AM departure. (This site puts us far enough south that we won't have much difficulty with stop lights to keep everyone together.) We will then proceed south on Redwood Road and then on to Route 68 (Camp Williams Road) and follow the west side of Utah Lake down to Elberta. Then turn right onto Route 6 over the summit and into Eureka. This will be our lunch stop. The Summit Drive-In is at the top of the hill or you can bring a picnic basket. After lunch there is the Tintic Mining Museum (open from 10:00 to 4:00) and lots of cool old buildings to look at. On the way out of town there is a very old cemetery with some interesting grave stones for anyone not afraid of ghosts. When we get to the bottom of the hill we will make another right onto Highway 36 and go north through Rush Valley and Tooele to the Lake Point Junction. Then it's time to say "Good Bye" and take I-80 home. The distance start to finish is about 127 miles and we should be done by mid afternoon. It gave no warning, no knocks, rattles, or shakes. Just a bang, a grind, and it began to leak a little oil. Hopefully, I'll be able to get it back on the road this summer. Cars and Coffee BMCU, P.C. Cars and Coffee is off to a good start! Seven of us (one new member!) showed up around 9-ish and enjoyed warming weather and sunny skies as we talked cars and drank coffee. I mostly listened (I'm the young gun...33 yrs. old) to stories from racing at Miller Motorsports park to different engine sizes to stories of witnessing races in Europe. Holy cow, these guys have stories! That said, it was a great start and the small crowd allowed me to mostly listen to the passions and triumphs of my fellow BMCU'ers. I feel that I soak up all the little details about engine modifications, famous racers the guys have met, upcoming shows and meets, and a nightmarish story about some guy flipping a Ferrari Enzo in southern Utah! Yikes! I can't recall all the names of the people there, but the following cars were present: Red Sunbeam Tiger (monstrous engine in it, work of art) Beige Triumph TR8 Black TR3A Baby Blue VW Beetle (can't remember the year) Black Triumph Bonneville motorcycle MGB Lim. Ed. And a guy who pulled up later in a 427(?) Shelby (AC?) Cobra. Plenty of other cars (Porsches, a Land Rover...) slowly drove by and waved at us, and overall I have to say it was a great way to start a Saturday. And, I think everyone said they'd be there next time. So, it's on again next weekend. Next Saturday at 9am at the Kimball Junction Starbucks just south of I-80. Bring whatever car you enjoy driving, don't feel it has to be washed or prepped, just show up, drink warm beverages, and enjoy the delights of owning and sharing cars (or motorcycles!). Have a great week. I had a good time on my first BMCU run. I brought my very rough TR3 that had probably less than 20 miles on it since 1969 and put about 150 trouble free miles on it. The lack of trouble shocked me more than you may believe. I was primarily along to make sure the other cars looked good :) mine was by far the roughest, but everyone was very kind and welcoming. It was a little chilly at times, at least for a 6'4" guy in car with no top or sidescreens, but definitely worth any discomfort. I didn't do the full loop as my Dad, who was with me, needed to stop in Lindon, so we went back to I15 and down to Lindon before going back to SLC. Hopefully the rest of the loop went as well or better (there was one car that had some trouble) than the first part. It was worth the wait for breakfast. We then continued up US 89 to US 6 and then to Spanish Fork. It was now around 1130 and the traffic was building quickly. We decided to take the non-Interstate route back to SLC. The traffic was much lighter and we didn't have the 20 mph closing rates of the trucks with trailers, or trucks with ATV's, or semi's weaving through traffic, etc. We arrived home at 1430 after stopping at our favorite frozen yogurt shop for a big dish of that tasty treat. Jill and I had a fantastic weekend with everyone, touring Torrey, Capitol Reef NP, and the surrounding area. If you have never been to that part of our state, you owe it to yourself to see the incredible rock formations that are constantly changing color with the movement of the Sun. This was our first "long" run with BMCU and we had a blast. It was over much too soon, and I think we all had to come home to rest up. Our Sunbeam Alpine ran like a top even though we weren't the fastest of the Tour Group. I believe that even though the group had some problems: flat tires, too rich carbs, foot getting run over, being the rowdy ones at the motel predominately filled with motorcyclists and being asked to quiet down, wrong turns, etc. we all had a great time on the BMCU Torrey Tour. We got home at 12 15 but took the direct route. It was fun weekend.
