Indeed the needle was stuck. I drained the gas from the carbs and blew some WD-40 and tapped the bowls with a small wrench and it work. Needless to say that when I changed the oil, the viscosity of the oil was like water because of all the gas that made its way into the engine. However, the car is now running REALLY rough. When I give gas, it start to putter and I have to pump the gas to get the revs up and then it will die. I never had that problem. What can this be? If this is happening, I would think there is a problem with the gas pump. I don't know the TR6, but I imagine the mechanism is the same as the earlier cars with a rubber diaphragm which can leak. Do you think the problem may be your pump? 7bit Errors-To: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net the fuel pump never stops pumping. The needle valve in the float bowl (not the mixing needle and jet) is what sends unneeded fuel back to the tank. If the needle valve in the float boat sticks open, or the float(s) get a hole in them and cease to float, fuel will certainly flood the carb throat Colin 75-sold :-( ----- Original Message ----- From: 6pack-request@autox.team.net To: 6pack@autox.team.net Sent: Tue, 11 Sep 2018 12:00:01 -0600 (MDT) Subject: 6pack Digest, Vol 46, Issue 9 Send 6pack mailing list submissions to 6pack@autox.team.net To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit http://autox.team.net/mailman/listinfo/6pack or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to 6pack-request@autox.team.net You can reach the person managing the list at 6pack-owner@autox.team.net When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of 6pack digest..." If this is happening, I would think there is a problem with the gas pump. I don't know the TR6, but I imagine the mechanism is the same as the earlier cars with a rubber diaphragm which can leak. Do you think the problem may be your pump? Andrew Uprichard Jackson, Michigan -----Original Message----- From: 6pack [mailto:6pack-bounces@autox.team.net] On Behalf Of Patrick Bitton via 6pack Sent: Sunday, September 9, 2018 3:49 PM To: 6pack@autox.team.net Subject: Re: [6pack] fuel problem Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Put the old needles back in and they are still holding 10 years later. I think key is put a filter before the fuel pump and another before the carbs - they're cheap. Now I need to fine tune the carbs to get the right mixture. Right now they are running a little too rich but I can't get the needles properly adjusted. I feel that as much as I turn the tool, I can't get it to run a little leaner. I guess it's trial and error. I did take it for a little test drive and I can hear the carbs sucking in A LOT of air. I will give a further update as soon as I can get it fine-tuned. If this is happening, I would think there is a problem with the gas pump. I don't know the TR6, but I imagine the mechanism is the same as the earlier cars with a rubber diaphragm which can leak. Do you think the problem may be your pump? Andrew Uprichard Jackson, Michigan -----Original Message----- From: 6pack [mailto:6pack-bounces@autox.team.net] On Behalf Of Patrick Bitton via 6pack Sent: Sunday, September 9, 2018 3:49 PM To: 6pack@autox.team.net Subject: Re: [6pack] fuel problem Thank you everyone for your suggestions. The idea is to filter the fuel so this can't happen. No news here, right?! I know the Grose Jet is thought poorly of by some on these forums, but I can attest to having only one incidence of failure in the 33 years I've used the Grose. One piece of rubber about the size of a piece of rice got thru. Likely my fault since I had peviousy changed a fuel line, after the filter. Going too far and the screw threads become disengaged and requires pushing the needle case back up to reengage the threads. There's about three turns here from full rich to full lean. Just a thought here. W= hen turning the tool to adjust needle height, clockwise raises it which ric= hes the mix. It is limited and will "bottom out" when turned this way. Turn= ing it CCW will lean out the mix. Going too far and the screw threads becom= e disengaged and requires pushing the needle case back up to reengage the t= hreads. There's about three turns here from full rich to full lean.
If = the float level(s) are too high unmetered fuel will be drawn in.
