The Kastner Cup race was great. Lots of cars, good competition and fun. The Kastner Cup shirt was a hit and many people requested additional shirts. There seems to be enough interest to do one more run of shirts. We are donating a portion of the proceeds from the sale of all the Kastner Cup shirts to Mark Bradakis, the operator and majordomo of all the team.net sites. Mark's efforts benefit all of us in this hobby - racers, restorer's or just plain interested enthusiasts. Even if we don't get a sufficient number of orders, please donate to team.net. Kas likes the idea of Mark getting some extra funds and might be persuaded to autograph your shirt. Details worked out between buyers and Kas. Email Kas at kaskas@cox.net. We have a final order date of close of business, May 14. Tuesday we are go or no/go. Shirts will be $15 for size small through XL. $18 for XXL or XXXL. (price does not include shipping) You need to contact us with your name, shipping address and method of payment - Visa/MasterCard/Discover or send a check - no PayPal. If we have enough orders, shirts will be printed and shipped. If we do not have a sufficient number of orders, your information will be shredded. A minimum of 48 orders is needed. For those who have not seen the shirt, here is a link to view the shirt. http://littlebluespitfire.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=6612 Order early, order often. Thanks for all your support. If it goes into gear OK, it is likely a comb of the last two. Whatever, to end the problem, the trans needs rebuilding. ________________________________________ From: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net [6pack-bounces@autox.team.net] On Behalf Of David Fidler [djfidler@rogers.com] Sent: Saturday, May 05, 2012 10:47 AM To: Andrew Uprichard Cc: <6pack@autox.team.net> Subject: Re: [6pack] Transmission Question Jumping out of third upon deceleration is usually an indication of a worn synchro. Okay, question, when we do a rebuild of major component, trannie, differential etc. on our 40 year old cars, do we insist that key parts are replaced, even if they look okay or are still within book spec. For instance, some rebuilders replace differential crown wheel and pinion as a matter of course, others not. I see on http://www.vtr.org/maintain/trunnion-oil.shtml that Peter Zaborski uses a Quicksilver Grease Gun (P/N C-91-37299 and oil is Quicksilver Gear Lube Super Duty in a 250 ml tube (P/N 92-98780). That's good info for trunnion oiling. But, can someone recommend a good quality grease gun for tie rods, u-joints, ball joints, etc. that is able to reach grease zerks while lying on ones back on the floor of a garage? :- ) The grease gun I have must be a cheapo -- it leaks and is too large to maneuver where it's needed.... Thanks! It comes with a long flexible hose to the nozzle, like the one in your link, but longer. I don't have issues with it leaking. I got it because I have a farm with several tractors and do a LOT of greasing, like every weekend. The hand lever guns were killing me! The great thing about this Lincoln is the trigger is easy to pull and leaves your other hand free to lock (and sometimes hold) the nozzle down on the zerk fitting. The hose is flexible enough to get into tight places and stiff enough to shove on to recessed fittings (man I hate those). The other great thing is that it has the power to blow through most stuck fittings. the quality is outstanding. I have had no issues and have dropped it a couple of times with not even a scratch. The pull back latch is easy to engage and very positive. You will fall in love with it and wonder why it took you so long to get it. Kind of like your first air ratchet. You will also end up greasing things more often, just to use it. That's a good thing. They make a battery powered one, if you don't have a compressor. But hey, if you don't have a compressor then shame on you! Buy one just so you can use the grease gun. -grego -----Original Message----- From: David Friedlander [mailto:forzion7@gmail.com] can someone recommend a good quality grease gunfor tie rods, u-joints, ball joints, etc. that is able to reachgrease zerks while lying on ones back on the floor of agarage? :- ) ________________________________________ 6pack@autox.team.net Donate: http://www.team.net/donate.html Archive: http://www.team.net/archive Forums: http://www.team.net/forums Unsubscribe: http://autox.team.net/mailman/options/6pack/mharc@autox.team.net From 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net Tue May 15 19:40:25 2012 Return-Path: <6pack-bounces@autox.team.net> X-Original-To: mharc@autox.team.net Delivered-To: mharc@autox.team.net Received: from autox.team.net (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by autox.team.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id CBBB82D0A9E for ; Tue, 15 May 2012 19:40:25 -0600 (MDT) X-Original-To: 6pack@autox.team.net Delivered-To: 6pack@autox.team.net Received: from mail-yx0-f169.google.com (mail-yx0-f169.google.com [209.85.213.169]) by autox.team.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 54E592D0746 for <6pack@autox.team.net>; Tue, 15 May 2012 17:39:07 -0600 (MDT) Received: by yenm7 with SMTP id m7so209849yen.14 for <6pack@autox.team.net>; Tue, 15 May 2012 16:39:48 -0700 (PDT) DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=gmail.com; s=20120113; h=mime-version:in-reply-to:references:date:message-id:subject:from:to :cc:content-type; bh=HR95DxSA+xA9gvV3pyxjiNqbWreqL5KMlPtFWxolioA=; b=cbyBa7Oba/AO3GNnOLC5fzIxRewMjkYlqHZ0/Hu+FBr8dOFR3fJjY1ABCUXUkGg9B/ wPo0HPo6pk4ZXhuuaUWSZj30jDES4bRseqtyLT5AYNK8rwaneWZLQ4k/NU+sP9SSv8uO ycaBhvhmRTrzd+P+rYbcqEp80LG38+IzLd2+PxmFphi1hMSPK44/SOx+25EYXITQOWus GLB0LQcTFDY21NGBd9pMQsMrnrOT7NLcpYPsqhfmxEPTbAJltwbtlydTF4Xz+sG+lB0Z yUKexC4p+Qgt1p4moANyIVKjS0dAl9Y1/zEJTFafkGBCQk7KALeyOat/G88J8M51Yryh +LzQ== MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.50.140.70 with SMTP id re6mr545574igb.23.1337125188416; Tue, 15 May 2012 16:39:48 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.231.219.133 with HTTP; Tue, 15 May 2012 16:39:48 -0700 (PDT) In-Reply-To: References: Date: Tue, 15 May 2012 19:39:48 -0400 Message-ID: From: David Friedlander To: grego@sandesco.com X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative by demime 1.01d X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain Cc: 6-Pack <6pack@autox.team.net> Subject: Re: [6pack] Grease gun X-BeenThere: 6pack@autox.team.net X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: 6pack TR6 discussions <6pack.autox.team.net> List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Errors-To: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net Sender: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net I see. But the easiest way to separate them is to look at the operating solenoid: if the solenoid is on the left (driver's) side and is vertically mounted, it is the older OD, and was used on the 3s and 4s; if on the lower left side, and is horizontal then it is the newer version and was used on the 6-cylinder engines. They are only interchangeable if you make an adapter mounting. It's easier to put the older type in the cars with the 6 cylinder engine. ________________________________________ From: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net [6pack-bounces@autox.team.net] On Behalf Of Chuck Arnold and/or Kathleen Kelley [triosan@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, May 28, 2012 2:27 PM To: Friends; Triumph; TR list Subject: [6pack] identify transmission I have a 4 speed transmission with J-type OD I purchased on e-bay several years ago. It could well be jamming. They get old, and dirt gets into the space between the plunger and the barrel of the solenoid. Most of them will make a distinct "snap" when going into and out of operation. You can check the operation of the switches in the transmission cover by putting a meter to check electrical continuity when you shift gears. Third possibility is the secondary relay. It could also be stuck. The car does not even need to be running when doing these tests, just have the ignition on. Check the wiring diagram to see where to put the meter. You can also use a little light bulb and a couple of alligator clips and watch to see if the light goes on and off. ________________________________________ From: 6pack-bounces@autox.team.net [6pack-bounces@autox.team.net] On Behalf Of Douglas Morris [dcmdcm@nc.rr.com] Sent: Tuesday, May 29, 2012 5:12 PM To: 6pack Subject: [6pack] Since we're talkin' about TR-7 J-type ODs Me ol' '74-6 took me from NC to Seattle, LA, TX, and back without a whimper last Summer. Possibly a Triumph saloon, although Volvo fitted many thousands of J types to their 240 series. Check the area directly under where the MC is bolted to the booster. If you don't see signs of linkage, you may just have air in the system. The booster itself could be leaking vacuum and cause one to press harder on the pedal to get the same amount of brake pad contact pressure. Another possibility is, IF-you engage first gear when stopped, like at a traffic light- is that the clutch is dragging and pulling the car forward. To eliminate this as the cause of your 'creep', take the tranny out of gear when stopped. See what happens. When I am stopped at a red light, after a few seconds the car will start to roll if I am on anything but level ground. I can push harder on the break and it will stop and if I pump the brakes they seem to firm up. It feels like they loose clamping pressure. During normal stopping everything feels fine. Do you think they need to be bled, Master cylinder needs replacing???? Thanks in advance for any assistance. I need a new housing & cable; I remember seeing a place that was recommended by a few listers that made up the cables with the housing to the correct size. The one on my car always seemed a little long but worked without the speedo needle jumping. If anyone can remember who that is please let me know; I thought I had saved the info but cannot find it. Thanks a bunch. Wanting a little more protection and filtering I went looking for something to put over the stack covers when I'm not rodding it. What I found was that the cloth drain covers for my hot tub fit nicely with enough resistance to not come off when at highway speed. Don't know how much filtering goes on but it's at least more than before and I can just shake them out when I need to and not mess with a lot of maintenance. My oil may get a little dirtier but the engine sure hums with the velocity stacks. I may test a few different types of material (sponge, etc.) to put between the stack covers and the drain cover just to see what gets caught. Still looking for that fine line between flow and filtering. I like power but not replacing rings. For those with Joe's velocity stacks or just interested: Part Name/ Number: Sundance Spas Drain Cover 6540-213. They are approx. 4 3/4 inches diameter and stretch just a wee bit.
