Caution! Curves Ahead! by Gary Fredo
On July 20th we will meet at the Sheetz just off the Mount Nebo exit of I79=
(1910 Mount Nebo Road, Sewickley Pa 15143) at 10:00 and finish at the Stee=
l City Sports Bar & Grille (3108 New Butler Rd, New Castle Pa 16101) at app=
roximately 2:00. The Driver's Meeting is at 10:15. Their website is steelci=
tysportsbarandgrille.com. I'm unsure of the seating arrangement as I write =
this as they didn't want me to make a reservation until we are closer to th=
e event but I'm sure they will be able to accommodate us.
As the name of the event implies, anticipate plenty of curvy roads on the d=
rive. There are several shady areas that we will be driving through so if i=
t ends up being hot, we will have occasional relief from the hot sun. For t=
he most part we will be on lightly traveled country roads with some transit=
ion roads to get from one fun country road to another. The route and direct=
ions are very similar to the route from 3 years ago and are fairly easy to =
follow.
With that said, I'm hoping people will step up and lead groups. You won't g=
et lost. I would like to keep the groups to five cars as much as possible. =
It's safer and easier to keep up with only five cars to a group. But if we =
end up with larger groups then that is ok also. I've designed this run so t=
here are very few signal lights on the course. There are also minimal left =
turns onto busy roads and we never directly cross a busy road. This will he=
lp to keep everyone together in the groups. I've had a blast driving around=
these country roads finding nice twisty roads.
So, if you like to drive a little briskly then I think you will really enjo=
y this run. And if you prefer a leisurely pace then you can put the top dow=
n and enjoy the scenery as most of the roads are tree lined with plenty of =
wildlife roaming about.
