Hello,
There's nothing like the sound of an engine running well, right? Yesterday =
all the advice and help especially from Bruce, came together in one extreme=
ly satisfying ride around Crafton. My 1976 Spitfire is running again and it=
's running well!I don't know how the timing became so far off but Bruce tes=
ted my Fireball and distributor, gave them his blessing and gave me a lot o=
f great information which lead to a successful restart of my long dormant e=
ngine.I've got a radiator leak so no long rides yet, but there's a shop in =
neighboring Carnegie that hopefully can fix the leak or leaks. In the meant=
ime, thank you all for the good information and encouragement. I sure learn=
ed a lot but most of all I learned what a great group of knowledgeable guys=
you are. I'm so happy to be considered a member of his impressive group.
Thank you all. I hope to meet you someday and thank you in person.
Cheers!
Kevin

 Hello all,
I hope you=E2=80=99re having a great summer. I planned to as well and expec=
ted to be attending British Car Days and other club events but my 1976 Spit=
fire is sidelined again with what seems like ignition problems.=C2=A0
Here=E2=80=99s the situation. I have a 1976 Spitfire with a Crane XR700 ign=
ition system. The carburetor and distributor were lovingly rebuilt this win=
ter by Bruce. Thanks again Bruce. It seemed fine until earlier this summer,=
I took it for a short drive and quickly headed back home. The engine was s=
truggling and stuttering while going up a mild incline in 3rd gear. Followi=
ng the advice of a friend with a TR6, living in South Carolina, I tested di=
sconnected each spark plug wire in sequence to figure out if there was trou=
ble inside the engine. Removing the #4 spark plug wire resulted in no chang=
e in the idle. Of course it stuttered badly upon removing #1 - #3 wires. I =
managed to drive the car to a nearby garage in Carnegie =E2=80=93 European =
Automotive Specialists. They ran a compression test and all four cylinders =
had between 140 =E2=80=93 150 pounds. The mechanic thought he isolated the =
problem with the distributor cap or wire to #4. I purchased a new cap, roto=
r and better set of Cobalt spark plug wires. This did not help. The engine =
still ran roughly and struggled under load.=C2=A0
Next, I purchased a new Lucas Sport coil from Victoria British. The ad on t=
he website said to disconnect the ballast/resistance wire so I cut and capp=
ed the pink and white wire. Now the car won=E2=80=99t start. I get a few po=
ps but nothing to work with and coax it into running. I will probably recon=
nect the pink and white wire, but then again, I don=E2=80=99t think it will=
help. I=E2=80=99ve checked the firing order and it is correct.=C2=A0
So, I=E2=80=99m waving the white flag and asking if anyone has the time and=
patience to help me get my car running again?By the way I live in Crafton.
Much thanks,=C2=A0Kevin.=C2=A0=C2=A0
