This message was originally rejected for being too long. Thus, this is the
second and final part.

OKay, back to my story... This wasn't some 'down and out' person driving a
Yugo running on 3 cylinders, I had stopped a lady who appeared respectable and
polite (read: she's not intoxicated and has passed the "attitude test"), and
is driving a brand new Cadillac. My intention was to (A) issue her a "Wasting
Energy" citation or (B) a "written warning". Most likely, since it was 30
over, a 'Wasting Energy'. (Now give me a break guys and gals.... That's
reasonable, yea!?!?). And just as soon as my Dispatcher radio's back "Clear,
Valid Class 3 License", I'll be on my way to the Donut Shop and life will be
beautiful. Except, my Dispatcher radios "One Sam Seventy One, "M" Mary. Cover
unit enroute, Warrant being confirmed!".

Hmmmm, "mother raper..... Father Stabber...... FATHER RAPER......" (cc Arlo
Guthrie, "Alices Restaurant", 1965)................ "Washoe, 1-SAM-71, charges
and bail?".... "1-SAM-71, Washoe, 1977 warrant out of Elko County, WASTING
ENERGY, Bail Forty Five dollars....., Confirmed and abstract enroute".

I walk back up to the car and ask the lady to please step back to my
car..... I explain how personally emberrasing I'm finding this to be, and
explain this outstanding warrant that by law (and Department policy) I am
required to take her into custody for. Fortunately, she understands my
position and takes it in stride. However, it gets worse!!!! Since she has a
warrant for her arrest I'm not allowed by department policy to cite her, I'm
required to take her into custody for the offense that I stopped her for! But
that's not all..... Since there's nobody immediately available to release her
car to, I'm required by department policy to call a tow truck and have it
stored for safe keeping.

When we arrive at Booking, and they search her and her purse for "machine
guns, hand grenades and small nuclear devices", lo and behold, there in her
billfold are a couple photographs of her and Paul Newman, standing in the pits
at Indy! Seems her family owns one of the largest cattle ranches in Nevada,
and are such good personal friends of Newman, that one year they were his
special guests at the Indy 500!!

I think two of the highlights of my law enforcement career were capturing
the suspect and safely recovering a four year old kidnapping victim, and
interrupting a sexual assault and capturing the suspect who later admitted he
intended to kill her after the rape was completed. And, the most emberrasing
'highlight' of my law enforcement career.

Thank you all for 'suffering through' my personal tribute to Paul Newman.
Although I never met the man he and I were both racers, and had a "third
party" relationship that any and all would have to admit was........ "Unique".
