Hi Guys,
I have a fair amount of Devin info and knew Bill Devin before he died. Plus,
I had a Devin C for a while (similar to the D). The D usually had 15 " wheels.
Some had 15" steel wheels with wide VW drum bake bolt pattern, usually
widened. On later cars Bill offered disc brakes on the front that used TR-3
discs
adapted to the VW front end (as used on all D and C models). There is an
article
in Hot Rod circa 1961 on the XR-6 hot rod that tells exactly how Devin did
it. The Devin C had Corvair rear suspension so they had smaller 4-bolt bolt
patterns. Devin preferred slotted 13" mag wheels on the C. The Devin D and C
remained in production through about 1965, which means the 356C disc brakes
could
have been used, but I have not heard of a Devin that came with them. Some of
the Devin Ds currently running in HMSA have Porsche 356 drums, which were
supposedly an option on the Ds. Personally, I would run 15s since they would
work
with your existing brakes.
