I've used silicone (DOT 5) in my TR4, TR6 and Morgan 4/4 with no problems.
When my "new" 58 Alfa Spider Veloce gets here in a couple of days, I'll make
that transition, too. As some poster stated, on cars that get little (or no
use)... silicone is a good idea. And on a concour car, the silicone doesn't
eat paint as the DOT 3/4 do.

The key is the seal thing... use NEW, not NOS; flush the lines with brake
clean and blow them out... rebuild the masters (Clutch and Clutch slave,
too), wheel cylinders, have the calipers done by White Post or Apple with
stainless pistons, etc. Bolt it together and go like heck.

Be safe,
Don Sforza
