travel directions to Gold Cup

Vintage Racers,

A group of racers will be coming from western NY for the VIR Gold Cup. Our plan 
is to take interstate 81 down. Any opinion on the best route for us towing to 
get from 81 to Danville? Should we cut over to pick up 29 somewhere to the 
north or all the way to Roanoke then to Martinsville, etc?
