Differences between Turbo and supercharging

Folks,

I have a simple question to ask. I recently saw an article in GrassRoots 
Motosports that implied that a prefered to get additional HP is using a Turbo 
on the new MINI 1.8 lt. engine as apposed to the 165 HP super charged version 
of the engine. What are the advantages of a bolt on turbo as compared to a 
super charge application.
