Point taken.

What I meant was, why try to get contemporary performance out of a "vintage"
racer? If that level of competition is what you are seeking, then build a
contemporary racer to GCR production or GT specs. Or take up TQ or midget
racing and scare yourself several nights a week.

I spent yesterday at the Performance Racing Industry show in Indianapolis,
the largest speed show in the US. I am astonished at how many companies are
devoted to go-fast technology. (I also was struck by how many race car
builders there are, from 3/4 scale Winston cup cars to electric karts.) If
money is no object, much of this wonderful technology can be applied to
vintage racers. Which, it seems to me, would be defeating the point of
vintage racing.
