The definitive book on the marque, "GT 40 An Individual History and Race Record" by Ronnie Spain says on page 35: "The last pre-Le Mans round of the championship, at the Nurburgring, attracted a field of four GT 40 variants (as the cars had now been designated, the name stemming from the original design height of 40 inches)." Prior to that (1965) the cars were known as Ford GTs |
