Gotta replace front shocks..
My MGA has for a few decades used MGB brakes/hub/suspension uprights.
(Folklore suggests that this was done because competition pads had
become unobtainable for the MGA in that era ). Spacers are used to
make the wide arm MGA shock fit with the narrow bushing in the MGB
upright.
In an ideal world, seems it would be nice to install MGB shocks, then
I wont have to fuss with spacers.
1) I am told that MGB shock bodies have slightly different bolt
pattern to MGA, however Brown and Gammons sell a MGA shock built on
MGB body, together with a "Bolt kit required when fitting MGB shocker"
(sic). That implies that if all that is required is a bolt kit, then
shock bolt holes should line up with the crossmember holes. Anyone
have any knowledge on fitting MGB shocks to MGA?
2) Is the center distance from shock to bushing the same for
MGA/MGB.?, If so then perhaps I could get someone to install MGB arms
on MGA shock body.
4) How do they remove/ install the arms on shock body anyway?
5) I understand that with lever arm shocks, airation of the oil can be
a problem, presumably this would lower the oil viscosity and lose a
lot of damping effect.
Is airation a problem in our kind of (short, relaitively smooth)
racing and if so are there any fixes?
