Hi Steve.
I have been watching this thread with intrerest as I too have been told that
inner tubes will not work in tyres with inside ribs. I am using Hoosier
Vintage TDs which are very heavy, bias ply tyres for racing. They have ribs,
I have wires, we have tubes and we have had one flat in 400 miles. The tire
man at the track said nothing about the ribs, he thought that there must have
been something inside the tire that made that little hole right on the seam
of the tube. Having mounted them myself I tend to doubt that. Other racers
recommended these tyres and I am sure that some of them are using wire
wheels. Time will tell I guess but the business of tubes being chaffed by
ribs is not a new thought. I am putting this on the vintage race net to see
if we get any more info.
Cheers
Don
