How about learning to drive my first wrecker. In 1959 my friend's father 
restored a 1940 GMC 2 1/2 ton 6x6 Army truck and had a 20 ton Holmes set up 
put on it. No synchos, no tow bar, the vehicle in back just hung on the hook. 
Unsmooth shifts or quick brake application beat the hell out the car on hook. 
It really got the owner mad when you were only towing it in for mechanical 
repairs
